Balancing needle thread tension
The thread tension should be adjusted
depending on the sewing materials, layers
of fabric and sewing method. To ensure
perfect sewing results, the needle thread
tensions must be perfectly tuned.
Balanced tension:
The ideal straight stitch has threads
locked between two layers of fabric, as
shown in the picture.
Check the tension with a wide zigzag
stitch. The threads must be interlaced
between the two fabric pieces.
If the needle thread tension is too high
the threads are interlaced above the top
fabric. Loosen the needle thread tension
by moving the dial to a lower number.
If the needle thread tension is too low,
the threads are interlaced below the lower
fabric. Tighten the needle thread tension
by moving the dial to a higher number
Setting the needle thread tension
Set the required needle thread tension
with the needle thread tension dial.
The normal setting for sewing is 4 to 5.
For darning and buttonhole set the
tension between 2 and 3.
