Flashing Numeric Panes
When a physiological alarm occurs, the numeric pane associated with the alarm changes
in appearance. The text in the pane turns white and the background indicates the alarm
priority, as shown in the following table.
If a measurement exceeds the monitor’s measurement range, or becomes unavailable or
unreliable, a question mark (-?-) replaces the value in the numeric pane and an Out of
Range or other technical alarm message appears in the message pane. See “Technical
Alarms” on page A-3 for a list of technical alarms.
Alarm Icons
Alarm icons represent current alarm status for a numeric pane. The following table
describes these icons.
For more information, see “Silencing, Acknowledging, and Pausing Alarms” on page 4-13.

Alarm Icon Description
The Audio Paused icon indicates that an alarm has been temporarily
silenced, or paused. This icon appears:
• In a specific numeric pane after you acknowledge an active alarm for
that measurement by touching the Acknowledge Alarm button.
• In all numeric panes when you touch the Audio Pause button.
The Audio Off icon indicates that alarm audio is turned off. This icon
appears:
• In any numeric pane for which you have specifically turned audio off.
Audio can be turned off in individual tabs of the Alarm Settings
menu, or in individual numeric pane menus.
• In all numeric panes when you touch the Alarm Audio Off button in
the Alarm Settings menu. The Alarm Audio Off button is present
only if your administrator has enabled it.
The No Alarms icon indicates that neither visual nor auditory alarm
indicators will be activated when an alarm condition occurs. When you
are operating in Alarms Off mode, this icon is displayed in all numeric
panes to remind you that no alarms will be activated. Alarms Off mode is
available only if your administrator has enabled it. See “Alarms Off
Mode” on page 4-16 for more information.
