EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use 6-9
NBP Measurement Methods
NBP Measurement Methods
The VS30 monitor offers three methods for measuring NBP:
• Standard NBP measurement — The monitor uses multiple oscillometric pulses to
determine the pressure level at a particular pressure step.
• STAT NBP measurement — The monitor takes as many NBP measurements as
possible within a 5-minute period, pausing between each measurement.
• QuickNBP measurement — The monitor uses one oscillometric pulse to determine
the pressure level at a particular pressure step.
About STAT NBP Measurements
To complete a STAT NBP, the monitor takes as many NBP measurements as possible
within a 5-minute period, pausing between each measurement.
Note
The pause time between measurements varies with each patient, but the pressure in the
cuff is reduced to less than 15 mmHg for adults and 5 mmHg for neonates.
During a STAT NBP:
• The Interval icon appears in the upper right of the NBP numeric pane, along with the
word STAT.
If NBP is set as the source for pulse rate, a question mark (-?-) appears in the Pulse
numeric pane. An actual pulse rate value does not appear until the next time a
standard NBP is taken.
To manually start a STAT NBP, see “To manually start an NBP measurement” on
page 6-12.
Note
If you are in Interval or Continuous monitoring mode, and an NBP interval is configured,
you cannot start a STAT measurement until you turn off the interval setting. See “Taking
Automatic NBP Measurements Using NBP Intervals” on page 6-13.
About QuickNBP Measurements
To complete a QuickNBP, the monitor uses one oscillometric pulse to determine the
pressure level at a particular pressure step. The QuickNBP measurement takes less time
than the standard NBP measurement, which can improve the patient’s comfort.
The QuickNBP measurement method is not supported for neonatal patients. All NBP
measurements for neonatal patients use the standard measurement method.
