Monitoring Respiration Rate
This chapter describes how to monitor respiration rate using automatic sources, or to
enter a manual respiration rate.
Sources for Respiration Rate
If your monitor includes the optional CO
2
module (based on the Microstream™
sidestream etCO
2
method), the monitor can calculate and display a continuous airway
respiration rate (awRR) when CO2 Hardware is set to On in the CO2 menu. See
Chapter 9, “Monitoring Carbon Dioxide,” for details about this setting.
If your monitor includes the Masimo rainbow acoustic respiration (RRa) option, the
monitor can automatically calculate and display an RRa (acoustic respiration rate) value.
For additional details about this option, see the EarlyVue VS30 with Masimo Vital Signs
Monitor Instructions for Use.
Note
Measurements from different sources may provide slightly different results.
When neither awRR nor RRa sources are available, you can enter respiration values
manually, either directly in the Resp pane on the main screen or in the Respiration
menu. When only main screen manual entry is available, you cannot access the
Respiration menu.
