Setting Up the Monitor
2-8 EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use
When you first receive the monitor, the battery charge may be low. Philips strongly
recommends that you fully charge the battery before using the VS30 to monitor patients
for the first time. Doing so ensures that you have a full charge should AC power become
unavailable while monitoring. In addition, fully charging the battery before its first use
promotes longer battery life.
If a monitor connected to AC power experiences a loss of AC power, the monitor
automatically resorts to battery power, if the battery is sufficiently charged. All alarm
settings are preserved.
Note
To ensure that the battery is sufficiently charged, keep the monitor plugged in to AC
power when it is not in use.
Caution
Do not attempt to change the battery in your monitor. Battery service must be performed by trained
service personnel.
WARNING
Dispose of used batteries in an environmentally responsible manner. Do not dispose of the battery in
normal waste containers. Consult your hospital administrator to find out about local arrangements.
Three indicators show the charging status of the battery:

Charging LED
The Charging LED on the right side of the monitor uses color to indicate the remaining
battery charge:
Green — 90% or more
Flashing Green — 30% to 89%
Amber — 21% to 29%
Flashing Amber — less than 21%
The battery LED does not illuminate when there is no battery installed or when the
monitor is turned off.
