EarlyVue VS30 Instructions for Use 2-7
Setting Up the Monitor
Turning the Monitor On
WARNING
To prevent loss of monitoring, alarming, and data, a battery must be installed in the monitor. If the
monitor loses AC power, it resorts to battery power. If AC power is interrupted and there is no battery
installed, then the monitor will fail to operate and will lose its data.
The monitor operates on AC power or an internal battery. For battery details, see
“Understanding, Charging, and Maintaining the Battery” on page 2-7.
To turn the monitor on
1 Connect the power cord to the power connector on the monitor’s rear and to an AC
power source. To prevent accidental detachment of the power cord from the back of
the monitor, lower the power cord retaining clip over the top of the power cord plug.
2 Ensure that the AC outlet is properly grounded and supplies the specified voltage
and frequency (100–240 VAC, 50–60 Hz).
In the U.S., a hospital-grade outlet is recommended.
The green AC Power LED on the right side of the monitor lights when the AC power
source is connected. The Charging LED indicates the current status of the battery. For
more information, see “Understanding, Charging, and Maintaining the Battery” on
page 2-7.
3 Press the On/Standby button on the right side of the monitor.
The monitor turns on and performs a self test. Confirm that the following self tests
occur during startup:
- A set of color bars appears on the screen to test the display.
- A tone sounds to test the auditory alarm system.
- At the top of the monitor, the alarm light displays blue, then amber, then red, to
test the visual alarm system.
To verify the speaker is working at any time, see “Testing Alarms” on page 4-17.
You may be prompted to change the system date the first time you turn on the
monitor. For more information, see “Changing the System Date and Time” on page 2-
10.
If your facility requires a separate potential equalization connection, use the grounding
post on the rear of the monitor. Connect a grounding from the post to the grounding
system in your facility.
Understanding, Charging, and Maintaining the Battery
The monitor runs on AC power or battery power. When connected to an AC power
source, the monitor operates even if no battery is installed or the installed battery is
depleted. When the monitor is connected to AC power, and a battery is installed, the
battery is being charged.
