CHANGING THE PADS CARTRIDGE
There are four kinds of HeartStart Home pads cartridges designed for use with
your defibrillator: HeartStart Home Adult SMART Pads, HeartStart Home Infant/
Child SMART Pads, reusable HeartStart Home Adult Practice Pads, and reusable
Infant/Child Practice Pads.
Adult SMART Pads are intended for any patient eight years or older, or weighing
55 pounds (25 kilograms) or more. Infants and younger or smaller children should
be treated using the HeartStart Home Infant/Child SMART Pads, if available;
otherwise, use the Adult SMART Pads placed on the chest and back.
The HeartStart Home practice pads are for practicing how to use your HeartStart
Home Home Defibrillator.
They cannot be used to treat sudden cardiac arrest. Store
the practice pads separately from your
HeartStart Home Home Defibrillator.
To change the pads cartridge, or to replace an expired pads cartridge:
1. Remove the new cartridge from its foil pouch.
2. Locate the latch at the top edge of the defibrillator, and slide it to the side.
The pads cartridge will be released. Remove the old cartridge.
3. Install the new cartridge: slide the bottom end of the cartridge into the recess,
then press in the cartridge until the latch clicks into place. Be sure the green
handle is pressed down firmly. The HeartStart will tell you what kind of pads
