Why does my Polaris Ranger 6x6 700 EFI 2009 engine backfire?
- DDanielle MarshallAug 12, 2025
A Polaris Utility Vehicle engine may backfire due to several reasons: a weak spark from the spark plug (inspect, clean, and/or replace the spark plugs); an incorrect spark plug gap or heat range (set the gap to specifications or replace the plugs); old or non-recommended fuel (replace with fresh, recommended fuel); water present in fuel (replace with fresh recommended fuel); or loose ignition connections (check all connections and tighten). For incorrectly installed spark plug wires, incorrect ignition timing, or mechanical failure, it is recommended to see your Polaris dealer.
