High water pressure, possibly from an oversized pump, may also be the cause. Install a Valved Bypass to redirect excessive water pressure buildup, diverting water directly to your waterfall. Lastly, the setup might be creating back pressure due to the hose configuration; redo the setup to eliminate back pressure on the outlet port of the filter.
