Important Technical Specifications

Dimensions and Installation Requirements:

  • Wooden Post (Not Included): Requires a pressure-treated 4" x 4" x 72" wooden post. The actual diameter of a standard 4" x 4" pressure-treated post is 3-1/2" x 3-1/2".
  • Post Burial Depth: The wooden post must be buried 24" deep, leaving 48" of the post above ground.
  • Post Extension: The pressure-treated wood post MUST extend up into the Lexington Post a minimum of 48".
  • Overall Height: When installed correctly, the top of the wooden post will be 48" above ground level. The post sections extend above this, with the mailbox mounted on top.

Hardware Included (Shown at actual size in the manual):

  • Steel L Bracket

Usage Features

Installation Process: The installation is a multi-step process designed for a secure and stable setup.

  1. Site Preparation: Determine the mailbox location and dig a 24" deep hole. Install the customer-supplied 4" x 4" x 72" pressure-treated wooden post, ensuring 48" remains above ground and it is perfectly vertical using a level. Soil packing or concrete may be needed for stability, especially in loose soil.
  2. Post Assembly:
    • Slide the Lower Post Section over the wooden post. This section has no specific "front" orientation.
    • Slide the Upper Post Section over the wooden post, ensuring the side with the part/screw pattern faces the street (as shown in Fig. 2B).
    • Press the Upper Section onto the Lower Section until the two components snap together completely.
  3. Bracket Attachment:
    • Attach the Steel L Bracket to the Upper Post Component using two #14 x 1-1/2" Pan Head Screws (F). These screws must self-tap through the plastic wall and drill into the wooden post for full stabilization.
    • Attach the Decorative Support Piece to the Upper Post Component using one #14 x 3" Pan Head Screw (G) in the upper hole and one #14 x 1-1/2" Pan Head Screw (F) in the lower hole. These screws also self-tap into the plastic and wood.
    • Connect the Decorative Support Piece to the Steel L Bracket using one 1/4 - 20 x 1" Phillips Machine Bolt (C) and one 1/4" - 20 Nut (D).
  4. Mailbox Assembly:
    • Assemble the mailbox door to the mailbox body using the two mailbox pins. The pins can be snapped into place by firm thumb pressure or tapped with a rubber mallet. Correct installation means the pins cannot be removed with fingers.
    • Attach the two Mounting Brackets to the Steel L Bracket. The Steel L Bracket has multiple hole locations to accommodate various standard mailboxes. Select the holes that align with the mailbox's mounting holes. Use four #10 - 24 x 1/2" Phillips Machine Bolts (A) and four #10 - 24 Nuts (B).
    • Securely attach the assembled mailbox to the Mounting Brackets using four #10 - 24 x 1-1/2" Phillips Machine Bolts (E) and four #10 - 24 Nuts (B).
  5. Finial Attachment: Attach the Pyramid Finial to the top of the Upper Post Section by pressing and snapping it firmly into place.

Tools Recommended (Not Included):

  • Post Hole Digger
  • Level
  • Phillips Head Power Screwdriver

Safety Feature:

  • "Call Before You Dig" - Dial 811: This is a crucial warning to contact the local One Call center before digging to prevent damage to buried utility lines.

Maintenance Features

The manual does not explicitly detail maintenance features. However, based on the materials and design, general maintenance would likely involve:

  • Regular Cleaning: Wiping down the mailbox and post to remove dirt, dust, and grime to maintain its appearance.
  • Inspection: Periodically checking the security of all fasteners (bolts and screws) and the stability of the post in the ground.
  • Paint Touch-Up: If the finish is scratched or chipped over time, touch-up paint may be applied to prevent corrosion and maintain aesthetics.
  • Post Stability: Re-packing soil or adding concrete if the post becomes loose, especially if installed in loose soil.
