  If your Prime Protection Device's circuit breaker trips, it could be due to an undersized circuit. In this case, you should have a licensed electrician install a new circuit breaker with an appropriate current (amp) rating. Another cause could be internal or external damage to the cable causing a short. Unplug the cable and check for cuts. If there are no external cuts, there may be internal damage. If the circuit breaker continues to trip after checking these solutions, dispose of the cable and purchase a new one.

  If you are still experiencing icing problems with your Prime Protection Device, ensure the pattern is laid out correctly by checking for areas that deviate from the installation instructions and change them accordingly. Also, make sure to prevent external heat sources from coming into contact or being in close proximity with the cable, as this may prevent the thermostat from registering sub 40°F/4°C temperatures. Finally, check the PRIMELIGHT® Indicator Light to ensure the cable is still receiving power.

  If icing problems persist with your Prime Protection Device, and you suspect a damaged bi-metallic thermostat, you must replace the unit. To test the thermostat, first check that power is being supplied to the cord and that the cord is not overlapping itself. Wrap an ice pack around the thermostat while it is installed on the pipe. After a few minutes the cable should be warm to the touch. If the cable does not respond to the ice pack it is defective and needs to be replaced.
