Overview

This document is a user manual for the Pro-Form Endurance 520 E elliptical. It provides comprehensive information regarding the assembly, operation, maintenance, and safety precautions for the device.

The Pro-Form Endurance 520 E elliptical is a fitness equipment designed for home use, offering a low-impact cardiovascular workout. Its primary function is to simulate walking or running without the high impact on joints, providing an effective exercise for users. The elliptical features a console that displays various workout metrics, allows for resistance adjustments, and offers pre-programmed workouts. It also includes connectivity options for smart devices and heart rate monitors, enhancing the user's workout experience and tracking capabilities.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Number: PFEL55916.1
  • User Weight Capacity: The elliptical should not be used by persons weighing more than 300 lbs (136 kg).
  • Dimensions: Length: 5 ft. 8 in. (173 cm), Width: 2 ft. 10 in. (86 cm).
  • Power Adapter: The elliptical requires a power adapter for operation. It is crucial to use only a manufacturer-supplied regulated power adapter to avoid damaging the console. If the elliptical has been exposed to cold temperatures, it should be allowed to warm to room temperature before plugging in the power adapter to prevent damage to the console displays or other electronic components.
  • Heart Rate Monitor: The console is compatible with BLUETOOTH® Smart heart rate monitors. The handgrip heart rate monitor is also integrated. The heart rate monitor is an exercise aid and not a medical device; various factors can affect the accuracy of readings.
  • Connectivity: Supports BLUETOOTH connections to smart devices via the iFit app and compatible heart rate monitors. Other BLUETOOTH connections are not supported.
  • Console Display: Features a multi-segment display showing RPM, average RPM, calories burned, calories per hour, distance, time, speed, watts, and average watts. It also includes indicators for iFit sync, standard/metric units, and audio controls.
  • Resistance Levels: Adjustable resistance for pedals, controlled via quick resistance buttons or manual increase/decrease buttons on the console.
  • Ramp Incline: The incline of the ramp can be adjusted to vary the motion of the pedals, providing different workout intensities.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: Requires two persons for assembly. The manual provides detailed, step-by-step instructions with illustrations. It is recommended to register the product online at www.proformservice.com/registration to activate the warranty and receive updates.
  • Placement: Should be placed on a level surface indoors, away from moisture and dust, with at least 3 ft. (0.9 m) of clearance in the front and rear, and 2 ft. (0.6 m) on each side. A mat under the elliptical is recommended to protect the floor.
  • Mounting/Dismounting: Users should hold the handlebars or upper body arms when mounting, dismounting, or using the elliptical. To mount, step onto the lower pedal first, then the other. To dismount, wait until pedals stop, then step off the higher pedal first.
  • Pedal Motion: The elliptical does not have a freewheel, meaning pedals continue to move until the flywheel stops. Users should reduce pedaling speed in a controlled manner. Pedals can turn in either direction, though a recommended direction is indicated.
  • Manual Mode: Allows users to manually adjust pedal resistance using quick resistance buttons. The console displays real-time workout feedback.
  • Onboard Workouts: The console offers pre-programmed workouts that automatically adjust pedal resistance to guide users through effective exercise sessions. Each workout is divided into one-minute segments with programmed resistance levels and target speeds.
  • Smart Device Connectivity (iFit): Users can download the iFit app on their iOS® or Android™ smart device to connect to the console via BLUETOOTH. This allows for recording and tracking workout information. The iFit Sync button on the console is used to establish and disconnect this connection.
  • Heart Rate Monitoring: Heart rate can be measured using handgrip sensors or an optional BLUETOOTH Smart chest heart rate monitor. If both are used, the chest monitor has priority. Users should hold handgrip contacts for at least 15 seconds for accurate readings, avoiding tight gripping or movement.
  • Sound System: A 3.5 mm audio cable (not included) can be plugged into the console and a personal audio player to play music or audio books through the elliptical's sound system. Volume can be adjusted via console buttons or the audio player.
  • Console Settings: Users can access a settings mode to adjust units of measurement (miles/kilometers), contrast level of the display, and view usage information (total hours, total distance).
  • Tablet Holder: Designed for most full-size tablets, allowing users to place their tablet securely for entertainment or workout apps during exercise.
  • Exercise Guidelines: Includes recommendations for exercise intensity (fat burning, aerobic exercise), workout structure (warming up, training zone exercise, cooling down), and frequency. Suggested stretches are also provided.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Inspection: All parts should be inspected and properly tightened each time the elliptical is used. Worn parts must be replaced immediately.
  • Cleaning: The elliptical can be cleaned with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap. Liquids should be kept away from the console, and the console should be kept out of direct sunlight to prevent damage.
  • Troubleshooting (Console):
    • Heart Rate Display Issues: If heart rate is not displayed or appears inaccurate, refer to the heart rate measurement instructions.
    • Display Lines: If lines appear on the console display, adjust the contrast level in the settings mode.
    • Power Adapter: If a replacement power adapter is needed, contact customer care and use only a manufacturer-supplied regulated power adapter.
  • Reed Switch Adjustment: If the console does not display correct feedback, the reed switch may need adjustment. This involves unplugging the power adapter, removing the left disc, locating and adjusting the reed switch's proximity to the magnet on the pulley, and then reattaching the disc.
  • Drive Belt Adjustment: If pedals slip even at the highest resistance, the drive belt may need adjustment. This complex procedure involves unplugging the power adapter, removing various covers and parts to access the drive belt, loosening the idler screw, tightening the belt adjustment screw, and then reassembling the parts.
