Overview

This document describes the Proline Flush Range Hood, an appliance designed for residential kitchen ventilation. It is intended for installation by contractors or licensed installers due to its complexity and the potential for structural damage or injury if improperly installed.

Function Description:

The Proline Flush Range Hood is a ventilation system designed to be integrated seamlessly into a ceiling, providing powerful extraction of smoke, grease, and odors from a cooking area. It features a blower system to pull air through filters and exhaust it outside the home, ensuring a cleaner and healthier kitchen environment. The hood is equipped with LED lighting to illuminate the cooktop and offers multiple fan speeds for varying ventilation needs. It also includes a timer function and can be operated via a remote control.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Dimensions: The hood requires a ceiling opening with a minimum width of 13-3/4" and a maximum width of 22-1/4". The overall width of the hood is 42-1/2", and the depth is 26-3/4".
  • Ductwork: It utilizes two 6" round outlet adapters for ducting. Rigid metal ductwork is required; flex duct is not recommended as it can wear down quickly and allow air to escape. The system should be vented to the outside, not into attics, joists, or soffits.
  • Electrical Requirements: The hood operates on 120 V/60 Hz and requires a 15 or 20 amp breaker with a 2-wire cable with ground and a properly grounded branch circuit.
  • Mounting: The hood is heavy and requires a robust wood frame built from joist-size lumber, capable of supporting the hood's weight plus the frame's weight. Lag bolts and washers are used to secure the hood to the wooden support.
  • CFM: While specific CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute) is not provided, the document mentions "powerful range hood (600+ CFM)" in the context of makeup air requirements, suggesting it is a high-performance unit.
  • Certifications: All Proline range hoods are ETL certified, meeting industry standards and regulations for safety.

Usage Features:

  • Controls: The hood features a control panel with a power button, light button, and speed control buttons (plus and minus).
  • Power Button: A single press turns the hood on. A second press activates a 15-minute timer, after which the hood automatically turns off. A third press turns the hood off immediately. Pressing and holding the power button for three seconds allows adjustment of the clock (hour and minutes) using the plus and minus buttons.
  • Lights Button: Toggles the LED lights on and off.
  • Speed Control Buttons: The plus button increases the blower speed, while the minus button decreases it. These buttons also adjust the clock during time setting.
  • Remote Control: A small button near the digital display enables the remote control sensor, allowing operation of the range hood via an infrared remote control.
  • Optimal Mounting Height: For best performance, the hood should be mounted between 36" and 72" above the cooktop.
  • Safety Guidelines: Users are advised to use the high setting for heavy smoke or emergencies and lower settings for general use to prolong the hood's life. It is crucial not to leave the cooking area unattended, especially when cooking with oils, and to avoid heating oils past their smoke point. In case of a grease fire, smother flames with a lid, pan, baking sheet, baking soda, or salt; use a fire extinguisher for larger fires. Never use water on a grease fire.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Removal: The hood includes grease filters that can be removed for cleaning. The perimeter panels must be opened, and the interior panels (secured by eight screws) removed to access the filters.
  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning of the range hood filters, grease trays, and the hood itself every few weeks is recommended to prevent heavy grease buildup, which can shorten the hood's life and potentially lead to grease fires.
  • Light Replacement: LED lights can be replaced. This involves opening the front panels, carefully removing the old LED lights from their connectors using a flat-tip screwdriver, and clipping new LED lights into place. The hood must be unplugged and lights turned off before replacement.
  • Ductwork Maintenance: Old ductwork should be cleaned or replaced with new rigid ductwork to prevent grease fires and maintain efficiency. All joints in the duct system should be sealed with aluminum tape to prevent air leakage.

Warranty and Return Policy:

  • Warranty: Proline offers a three-year warranty. For the first year, parts and labor are covered (excluding installation). For the second and third years, only parts are covered. The warranty excludes filters, lights, dents, dings, scratches, or other external damage.
  • Returns: Returns for damaged hoods are accepted within 14 days of receipt. If undamaged, shipping and a restocking fee apply. Between 14 and 30 days, a 20% restocking fee and return shipping are the customer's responsibility. Crucially, damaged hoods should not be installed, as installed hoods are not eligible for return. Customers are advised to inspect the hood within 14 days of delivery, even if purchased for a future renovation project.
