Overview

The Prolitec AirQ system, designed for "Perfectly Scented Environments," offers a sophisticated solution for scenting spaces through a discreet, through-wall installation. This system is engineered to provide consistent and controlled fragrance delivery, blending seamlessly into various architectural designs while maintaining ease of use and maintenance.

At its core, the AirQ system functions by diffusing a scent plume into a desired space. The primary appliance, which houses the scent cartridge and power components, is typically installed in an adjacent room or a hidden wall cavity, referred to as the "appliance mounting room." This strategic placement ensures that the main unit remains out of sight, contributing to a clean and uncluttered aesthetic in the scented area. The scent itself is then delivered into the target room via a small, unobtrusive plume outlet. This two-part installation – a hidden appliance and a visible, yet discreet, outlet – is a key feature that distinguishes the AirQ system, making it ideal for environments where aesthetics and minimal visual impact are paramount.

The installation process for the AirQ through-wall kit is designed to be straightforward, yet requires basic DIY tools and skills. It begins with identifying a suitable location for the appliance in the "appliance mounting room." This involves using a stud finder to locate an empty wall cavity, ensuring there are no electrical wires or plumbing lines that could interfere with the installation. Once a suitable cavity is identified, a 6" x 6" square hole is cut into the wall. This initial opening serves a dual purpose: it allows for visual inspection of the wall cavity to confirm the absence of obstructions and provides access for drilling. From within this cavity, a pilot hole is drilled through the front wall surface into the room to be scented. This pilot hole acts as a guide for the subsequent drilling of the larger plume outlet hole.

In the room to be scented, a 2 1/8" hole is drilled, centered on the pilot hole, using a hole saw. This creates the opening for the plume outlet. The base housing of the plume outlet, which includes a small fan, clips, and tubing, is then inserted into this hole. The base housing is secured by screwing it into the drywall until it is snug. Finally, a trim ring is snapped over the front of the base housing, concealing the screws and providing a finished, aesthetically pleasing appearance. This meticulous approach to installation ensures that the visible component in the scented room is neat and blends in with the wall.

Preparing the appliance for connection involves a few simple steps. The fan shroud and the fan itself are removed from the appliance. The fan wires are then cut at the fan. This modification prepares the appliance for its through-wall connection, where the scent is delivered via tubing rather than directly from the appliance's internal fan.

Connecting the appliance to the plume outlet involves wiring and tubing. The wires from the fan assembly (part of the plume outlet) are connected to the corresponding wires from the appliance. Prolitec provides Posi-Lock instructions for this step, ensuring a secure and reliable electrical connection. Red wires are connected to red, and black wires to black. Once the electrical connections are made, the wires and the tubing are bundled together inside a cord management sleeve. This sleeve helps to keep the wiring and tubing organized and protected within the wall cavity.

The scent cartridge is then installed into the appliance, ensuring the top plume port is open. The plume tube, which extends from the base housing of the plume outlet, is inserted into this top plume port of the cartridge. This establishes the pathway for the scent to travel from the cartridge, through the tubing, and out into the scented room via the fan in the plume outlet.

The usage features of the AirQ system are centered around its ability to provide consistent and controlled scent delivery. By housing the main appliance out of sight, the system maintains a clean aesthetic in the scented environment. The small fan within the plume outlet ensures that the scent is actively dispersed into the room, rather than relying on passive diffusion. This active dispersion allows for more effective and uniform scent coverage within the designated space. The system is designed for continuous operation, providing a constant ambient fragrance.

Maintenance features of the AirQ system are primarily focused on the replacement of scent cartridges. The design allows for easy access to the cartridge within the appliance, which is located in the "appliance mounting room." This means that cartridge replacement can be done without disturbing the aesthetics of the scented room. The through-wall design also simplifies cleaning and upkeep in the scented area, as there is no visible appliance to dust or maintain. The robust construction of the components, including the base housing and trim ring, ensures durability and long-term performance. The use of standard electrical connections and easily accessible components contributes to the overall serviceability of the system. The cord management sleeve not only organizes the wires and tubing during installation but also protects them, minimizing the need for future interventions. The system's reliance on a single, easily replaceable scent cartridge simplifies inventory management and ensures a consistent scent experience over time.
