Overview

The PRV Audio DSP 2.4X is a digital audio processor designed to enhance the performance of audio systems through a wide range of high-precision settings and configurations. It incorporates a Digital Signal Processor (DSP) that handles equalizations, crossover filters, alignment, gain control, phase inversion, limiting, and digital routing of inputs and outputs. A unique sequencer feature allows for programmed activation and shutdown of up to three products via remote activation connections (REM).

Key Features and Functions:

  • Graphic Input Equalizer: Features 15 bands with a variation of ±12 dB per band (0.1 dB pitch), with frequencies spaced in 2/3 octave, ranging from 25 Hz to 16 kHz, compliant with ISO requirements. This equalizer simultaneously affects both inputs.
  • Parametric Input/Output Equalizer: Allows for precise gain/attenuation at specific frequencies and bandwidth adjustment via the Q factor. A smaller Q value results in a wider equalization band. The DSP 2.4X includes one parametric equalizer for the inputs and four for the outputs (one per output).
  • Input and Output Routing: Enables selection of audio sources (A, B, or A+B sum) for each output. The MAIN CONTROL dial is used to move the audio source to the selected route, and HOTKEYS allow for quick channel selection.
  • Crossover: Provides precise definition of cutoff frequencies for high-pass and low-pass filters, along with filter attenuations and topologies for each output. Available filters include Butterworth and Linkwitz-Riley, with attenuations up to 48 dB/8th.
  • Balance / Delay: Facilitates digital alignment of transducers (speakers) through time correction, improving audio fidelity and preventing frequency cancellations. Adjustments are made by measuring distances from a reference coil.
  • Phase Inversion: Resolves problems caused by canceling frequencies by allowing individual phase reversal (0° or 180°) for each output.
  • Limiter: Protects amplifiers and speakers with an integrated "Dynamic Attack-Release" system for each of the four outputs. It attenuates signal peaks to prevent damage. Settings include Threshold (-24 to 0dB), Attack (0.1 to 100 ms), and Release (1 to 1600 ms). An "AUTO" mode provides real-time control of Attack and Release for optimal sound fidelity.
  • Gain Control: Adjusts individual output gains from -45 to +15 dB and a master volume from 0 to 100%.
  • Mute Function: Allows individual or simultaneous muting of output channels. The LED color indicates the output status (blue for ON, red for OFF). The input graphic equalizer can also be turned on or off.
  • Graphic Equalization Presets: Offers 12 predefined equalization presets, including Flat, Loudness, Bassboost, Mid Bass, Treble Boost, Powerful, Electronic, Rock, Hip Hop, Pop, Vocal, and Pancadao (Heavy Beat).
  • Save / Load / Factory Reset: Features five memory slots for saving personalized settings, with titles up to 15 characters long. An autosave function ensures settings are not lost due to power interruptions. Factory presets can also be loaded. To restore all factory settings, simultaneously hold down HOTKEY shortcut keys for outputs 1, 2, and 3 while turning on the device (this will erase all internal settings).
  • Security: Locks the ability to edit settings, including save and load functions, via a password. The default password is "PRV1" (all caps). Output channel on/off is not blocked.
  • Tools: Includes a Tone Generator (generates specific frequencies with gain control), Frequency Sweep (performs frequency scans with adjustable start/end frequencies, gain, and speed), and Pink Noise Generator (signal sources for all outputs).
  • Screensaver: Allows users to define a 15-character scrolling text.
  • Language Selection: Supports English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
  • Sequencer: Activates up to three products sequentially (S1, S2, S3) based on the remote input signal (REM IN). The activation interval between outputs can be configured from 0s to 4s. If set to 0s, all three outputs activate/deactivate simultaneously. Each sequencer output can be independently turned ON/OFF.

Usage and Maintenance:

  • Installation: All connections must be made with the product turned OFF. Use recommended wire gauges to prevent overheating and ensure maximum power. Keep cables as short as possible for sound fidelity and route them away from vehicle wiring to avoid interference. Install in a firm, ventilated, and dry place. Installation should be performed by a qualified professional.
  • Navigation: Control is primarily via the MAIN CONTROL knob (rotation for navigation/value adjustment, short press for enter/select, long press for return) and HOTKEYS (short press for channel selection, long press for output ON/OFF).
  • Remote Activation (REM IN): Connects to the radio/player's remote output (minimum AWG 20 cable) for automatic amplifier activation.
  • Power Connections: Connect to the battery's negative (GND) and positive (+BAT) terminals using minimum AWG 13 cables. A 1A fuse is recommended for external protection on the positive line.
  • Audio Connections: Use quality shielded RCA cables for inputs and outputs to prevent noise.
  • Warranty: PRV Audio products are guaranteed for one year against manufacturer defects. The warranty is non-transferable and covers the original purchaser from an authorized dealer. It does not cover damage from improper installation, modification, misuse, abuse, unauthorized repairs, shipping damage, accidents, criminal activity, acts of God, blown outputs from overdriving, or use of non-recommended wiring. The serial number and warranty seal must be intact. Amplifiers should never operate with the clipping LED ON.
  • RA Request: To initiate a warranty claim, access www.prvaudio.com/warranty and fill out the form to receive a Return Authorization Number before returning the item.
