Overview

The device described in this manual is a 1/2 IN. DR. STUBBY IMPACT WRENCH, identified by Stock Number M632. It is a pneumatic tool designed for installing, tightening, removing, and loosening threaded fasteners.

Function Description:

The impact wrench operates using compressed air as its power source. It features a variable speed trigger and a power regulator valve, allowing users to control the output force for different applications. The tool's anvil rotates clockwise for tightening fasteners and counterclockwise for loosening them. It is specifically designed for use with impact sockets and is not suitable for standard sockets. The power regulator valve has three settings (small, medium, large dashes) which do not denote specific power outputs but rather serve as references for adjusting the amount of power. Setting 1 (small dash) provides the least amount of power, suitable for mounting threaded fasteners, while Setting 3 (large dash) provides the greatest amount of power for tightening. In reverse, the tool operates at maximum power to easily release threaded fasteners.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Drive Size: 1/2 inch
  • Max Reverse Torque: 767 ft. lbs.
  • Max Forward Torque: 667 ft. lbs.
  • Working Torque: 50-580 ft. lbs.
  • Air Pressure: 90 p.s.i.
  • Average Air Consumption: 7 C.F.M.
  • Free Speed: 12,000 RPM
  • Air Inlet (N.P.T.): 1/4 inch
  • Hose Size (I.D.): 3/8 inch
  • Weight: 3.25 lbs.

These specifications are subject to change without notice.

Usage Features:

  • Air Source Requirements: The tool requires clean, dry, regulated compressed air. Air compressors used must comply with European Community Safety Directives and supply the correct CFM output. Normal working pressure is 90 psi. The air compressor tank should be drained daily, and the air lines should be free of condensation. The tool's air inlet screen filter should be cleaned weekly. A 3/8" (inner diameter) air hose is recommended for optimal performance. Long air hoses (over 8 meters) may require higher compressor output pressure to maintain the required working pressure at the tool. Proper hoses and fittings are essential, and quick-change couplings should not be connected directly to the tool due to vibration.
  • Assembly: Before use, the air inlet protective cap must be removed, and a male plug (with thread sealant tape) must be mounted and tightened into the air inlet. 2-3 drops of air tool oil should be placed into the male plug before each use. The correct impact socket (and extension bar, if needed) is then mounted onto the anvil. The air supply hose is connected to the male plug, and the working pressure is set at 90 psi for best performance.
  • Operation: To install/tighten fasteners, the switch is turned forward, aligning the arrow with one of the three dots on the back housing, and the variable speed trigger is pressed. The anvil rotates clockwise. To remove/loosen fasteners, the switch is turned backward, aligning the arrow with the large dot, and the trigger is pressed. The anvil rotates counterclockwise. Users must ensure the correct torque is applied to fasteners to prevent stripping threads or breaking bolts.
  • Safety Information: Users must read, understand, and follow all instructions and warnings. The tool should always be used in a clean, dry, well-ventilated area, free of combustible materials. Proper attire is required, avoiding loose clothing or jewelry. The work area must be well-lit and free of clutter. Eye and ear protectors are mandatory. Oxygen, carbon dioxide, or other bottled gases should never be used as a power source. The air source pressure must be adjusted within the rated range and never exceed 200 psi. The air supply hose should not be connected with a finger on the trigger. The tool should not be left unattended, and the air hose should be disconnected when not in use. The air supply hose must be kept away from heat, oil, and sharp edges and checked for wear/leaks before each use. The tool should only be used for its intended purpose and not be altered. Disconnect the tool from air supply before changing accessories, performing maintenance, or moving it. Do not use a defective, damaged, or abnormally operating tool. Avoid excessive force and continuous operation, as vibrations may be harmful to hands and arms. Always use impact sockets and finish tightening wheel nuts or engine parts with a torque wrench to the vehicle manufacturer's recommended torque. Avoid impacting a nut or bolt more than 8 times to prevent over-tightening. Secure the workpiece with clamps or devices if necessary, and wear a safety helmet for overhead work.

Maintenance Features:

  • Lubrication: An in-line oiler is recommended for sustained operation and increased tool life. The oiler should be regularly checked and filled with air-tool oil. Proper adjustment is achieved by holding the throttle open for 30 seconds with a sheet of paper near the exhaust ports; a light stain of oil on the paper indicates proper setting. Excessive oil should be avoided.
  • Storage: For extended storage, the tool should receive a generous amount of lubrication and be run for approximately 30 seconds to ensure even oil distribution. It should be stored in a clean, dry environment.
  • Recommended Lubricants: Air-tool oil or any high-grade turbine oil containing moisture absorbent, rust inhibitors, metal wetting agents, and an EP (extreme pressure) additive.
  • Cleaning: The tool should be cleaned with a cotton rag after each use.
