8. Sound Enclosure Instructions
The Sound Enclosure provides personal protection from the noise generated by ultrasonics. The
enclosure reduces sound levels by approximately 25% when compared to sonication done in an open
setting. For example, the standard ½” horn produces 90 dB and when used inside the Sound
Enclosure, the noise is reduced to 73 dB.
A. Standard Horns

Remove screws Invert collar Proper installation of horn
Note: A ½” diameter rod is mounted inside the enclosure. A standard laboratory clamp can be used to
hold samples if necessary. A clamp is not included with the enclosure.
For shipping purposes, the unit is assembled
with the converter collar inverted and attached by
4 Philips head screws.
Remove the screws and lift out the collar. Invert
the collar and replace the screws.
Now the collar is in the proper position to hold
the converter and horn.
Standard ½” Horn

Sound Enclosure.
Beaker is raised to horn using
optional Jack Stand (# 357).
Door should be shut and latched
before operation.
