Overview

This document is an operator's manual for the Pulsar 5250DF Dual Fuel Generator.

Function Description:

The Pulsar 5250DF is a dual-fuel generator designed to provide electrical power. It can operate on both gasoline and LPG (liquid propane gas), offering versatility in fuel choice. The generator is equipped with various outlets to connect electrical tools and equipment, including AC 120V/240V and DC 12V outputs. It features a recoil start method for engine ignition. The generator is designed for outdoor use and requires proper ventilation due to the production of carbon monoxide. It is not designed to power sensitive electronic equipment without an approved line conditioner.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: 5250DF

  • Rated Power (GAS): 4.25 kW
  • Max. Power (LPG): 4.75 kW
  • Rated Power (LPG): 3.85 kW
  • AC Output Frequency: 60 Hz
  • AC Output Voltage: 120V / 240V
  • Power Factor: 1.0
  • Engine Model: DHLG225
  • Engine Type: 4 Strokes / Air Cooling / Single Cylinder / OHV / Horizontal Shaft
  • Displacement (cc): 224
  • Ignition Mode: Transistorized Magneto
  • Starting Mode: Recoil Start
  • Fuel Tank Capacity (L / Gal): 15 L (4.0 Gal)
  • Oil Capacity (L / Gal): 0.6 L (0.132 Gal)
  • Continuous Work Time (h): 9.5 hours
  • Weight: Approximately 120 lbs (requires two or more people for lifting/moving)

Usage Features:

  • Dual Fuel Capability: Operates on both unleaded gasoline and LPG, providing flexibility.
  • Control Panel: Includes a multi-meter (voltage, frequency, hour meter), main breaker, DC protector, AC 120V 20A duplex outlets, and an AC 120V/240V 30A receptacle.
  • Recoil Start: Manual pull-start mechanism for the engine.
  • Choke Lever: Used to provide the proper fuel mixture for starting a cold engine.
  • Fuel Selector Switch: Allows selection between gasoline and LPG operation.
  • DC Output Terminals (12V 8.3A): Can be used to charge automotive batteries. Users are cautioned to monitor charge time to prevent over-charge and to connect terminals with correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative).
  • Grounding Terminal: Essential for safety; a ground wire must be connected to this terminal before operation, in accordance with local electrical codes.
  • Circuit Breaker Protection: Features an AC non-fuse circuit breaker to protect against overload. If an overload occurs, the breaker will trip, shutting down the generator. It can be reset to resume operation.
  • Engine Switch: Used to turn the engine ON and OFF.
  • Fuel Valve: Controls the flow of fuel (gasoline) to the engine.

Maintenance Features:

  • Oil Level Check: Before each use, ensure engine oil level is adequate and fill with SAE 10W-30 grade engine oil if necessary. The oil dipstick is located at the bottom of the engine crankcase.
  • Fuel Level Check: Before each use, check the fuel gauge and refill with unleaded gasoline if needed. The generator must be turned off and cooled before refueling.
  • Regular Cleaning: Remove debris with a soft brush, rag, or vacuum before each use.
  • Lubrication: Lubricate all moving parts with a premium quality, lightweight machine oil.
  • Oil Change: Drain and replace engine oil every 50 hours of use with high-quality SAE 10W-30 grade engine oil.
  • Spark Plug Service:
    • Inspect the spark plug for cracks or chips. Clean with a wire brush if reusing.
    • Measure the plug gap with a feeler gauge.
    • Ensure the spark plug washer is in good condition.
    • Tighten the spark plug securely to prevent engine damage from overheating.
    • Recommended spark plugs: NHSP LD F7TC.
  • Professional Maintenance: Every 300 hours of use, a qualified, certified technician should perform thorough maintenance on the generator and engine.
  • Long-Term Storage: For long-term storage, either drain the fuel into a suitable container or add a fuel preservative/stabilizer to prevent fuel breakdown.
  • Pre-Operation Checks: Before each use, inspect for loose screws, misaligned or binding parts, cracked or broken parts, damaged electrical wiring, or any other condition affecting safe operation.
  • Safety Disconnect: Always ensure the engine power switch is in the "OFF" position and disconnect the spark plug wire before performing any inspections, maintenance, or cleaning. Allow the engine and generator to cool completely.
