VEHICLE SEAT BELT TYPES
TYPES OF SEAT BELT LATCH PLATES SAFE TO USE WHILE
SECURING YOUR CAR SEAT
1. Lap Belt with Locking Latch Plate.
Once buckled, the vehicle belt is
tightened by pulling on the free end
of the strap until the belt is tight.
TIP: A way to tell if the seat lap belt
is a locking latch plate is to sit in the
vehicle and buckle yourself in. Pull
gently on the lap belt. If it stays tight,
it is locking.
2. Lap Belt with Automatic
Locking Retractor (ALR).
The automatic locking retractor
does not allow the lap belt to
get longer once it is buckled and
retractor is locked.
The vehicle belt is tightened by
feeding seat belt webbing into
retractor after it has been locked.
