Drain the engine oil when the engine is warm. Warm oil drains quickly and completely.
Caution: Do not drain the oil when the engine is running!
1. Disconnect the spark plug wire and keep it away from the spark plug.
2. Place a suitable container next to the engine to catch the used oil.
3. Remove the cap / oil dipstick (g. 39A).
4. Remove the drain bolt and allow the used oil to drain completely into the container.
5. For an engine without a drain plug, we recommend using an oil extraction pump (g.40A). Keep
the engine where the spark plug is in the up position.
Please dispose of used motor oil in an environmentally friendly manner. We recommend that you
take the used oil in a sealed container to your local recycling center or reclamation service. Do not
throw it in the trash or pour it on the ground or down the drain.
6. Reinstall the drain bolt. With the engine in the aligned position, ll to the upper limit of the dip-
stick with the recommended oil.
CAUTION! Running the engine at a low oil level can cause engine damage.
7. Ret the oil cap / dipstick.
CAUTION! Wash your hands with soap and water after handling used oil.
AIR FILTER
A dirty air lter will restrict air ow to the carburetor and cause poor engine performance. Check
the air lter every time the engine is running. You will need to clean the air lter more often if you
work in very dusty areas.
CAUTION! Running the engine without an air lter or with a damaged air lter will allow dirt to enter
the engine, causing rapid engine wear. This type of damage is not covered by the warranty.
AIR FILTER INSPECTION AND CLEANING - SLOPED FILTER WITH PREFILTER
The air lter should be serviced (cleaned) after 25 hours of normal operation. Service more often
when operating the machine in extremely dusty areas.
1. Release the air lter cover (g.41A).
2. Remove the air lter cover. Be careful not to get dirt and debris into the base of the air lter.
3. Remove the pre-lter (Fig. 42A) and the air lter (Fig. 43A) from the air lter base.
4. Check the air lter elements. Clean the dirty elements.
5. To loosen debris, gently tap the lter on a hard surface or blow compressed air through the lter
from the inside out. Never try to brush the dirt, the brush will turn the dirt into the bers. If the lter is
excessively dirty, replace with a new lter.
6. The pre-lter is washed with liquid detergent and water. Then let it dry well. Do not pre-lubricate
the lter.
7. Reinstall the lters.
8. Close the cover and tighten it.
Note: Replace the lter if it is torn, damaged or cannot be cleaned.
SPARK PLUG
For best results, replace the spark plug every 100 hours. Use only the recommended spark plug that
is the correct heat-up temperature for normal engine operating temperature. To nd the current
recommended spark plug types, please contact an authorized service center.
CAUTION! If the engine is running, the muer and spark plug will be very hot. Be careful not to
touch these parts.
Note: Incorrect spark plugs can cause engine damage.
For good performance, the spark plug must be properly gapped between the electrode and free
of deposits.
1. Remove the cap (g.44A) from the spark plug and remove dirt from the spark plug area.
2. Use the spark plug wrench to remove the spark plug (Fig.44B).
3. Check the spark plug. Replace it if it is damaged, heavily soiled, if the sealing washer is in poor condi-
tion, or if the electrode is worn.
4. Measure the electrode gap with a suitable tool (g.45). The correct distance is specied in the speci-
cations. If adjustment is required, adjust the gap by gently bending the side electrode.
5. Install the spark plug carefully, by hand, to avoid overtightening.
6. Once the spark plug is in place, tighten with a suitable spark plug wrench to compress the washer.
