8.1 Introduction about making cables
8.1.1 Making Ethernet cables
The Ethernet cables have two types:
Straight-through cable: used to connect devices of different types, such as a PC and a
switch/switch and router.
Crossover cable: used to connect devices of the same type, such as between 2
PCs/switches/routers, or between a PC and a router (they are divided into the same group)
The RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL supports auto-MDI/MDIX, which means that both the straight-
through mode and crossover mode are available. When you use a Cat 5 twisted-pair cable
with RJ45 connectors to connect the RCMS2902-2E1GE-BL, note that the length of the
twisted-pair cable is not longer than 100 m.
Table 8-1 lists the wiring of the RJ45 connectors.
