CAUTIONS FOR INSTALLATION
The molded resin enclosure of the WS-A550 is light in weight and highly durable. As with any cabinet loudspeaker system, however,
certain installation precautions are necessary to assure public safety/maintain product appearance and obtain good sound quality.
Mounting of Loudspeakers Use of the Stacking Feature
The WS-A500 and WS-A550 are equipped with (8) M-8
threaded inserts, two per side for mounting purposes. When
used
¡n
pairs, the inserts will support the speaker at a minimum
design factor of 40:1 (Based upon in-line laboratory tensile
pull tests by National Technical Systems, data on file). When
mounting the speakers to the threaded inserts:
When mounting the loudspeaker system to a wall or
ceiling,
always secure the mounting hardware to building
structural members that are capable of safely supporting
not less than
(10)
times the actual weight to be suspended.
Never
attach
to the surface of a wall or celling.
Never assume the strength of hidden structural members.
Hidden structures may also have hidden weaknesses.
When in doubt, obtain competent advice from an
architect or licensed mechanical engineer.
A chain is only as strong as its weakest link. Never use lag
screws or eyes that rely upon wooden threads for support;
never use
S-hooks,
J-hooks or formed eye bolts, as these
attachments can pull open under loading.
The cabinets feature interlocking ribs to facilitate stacking
of multiple speaker systems. When stacking loudspeaker
systems:
Always select a
flat,
smooth,
floor
or ground surface upon
which to stack the speakers. Do not stack speakers on
an irregular surface; never stack speakers on a surface
or object that is above the floor or ground, such as upon
tables, boxes, or speaker stands.
Arrange loudspeaker stacks so that the interlocking ribs
are in proper alignment (all components oriented the same
direction) to prevent cabinets from sliding.
Do not stack speakers to a height greater than 4 ft above
the
floor
or ground without providing additional support to
prevent toppling, should the speaker stack be accidentally
bumped.
Always secure large stacked arrays to prevent
accidents.
Environmental Considerations
Two M-8 treaded inserts (eye-bolt, bolt-nuts and washer)
are provided for the WS-A500/550 speaker for fastening
the mounting bracket to the speaker.
For stand mounting, two eye-bolts should be
hand-tightened only as shown in
Fig.1.
To use the speaker suspended, use two eye-bolts per
speaker along with the bolt-nuts and washers (provided).
Eye-bolts must first be hand tightened.
Then after adjusting the eye-bolt direction, tighten the
bolt-nuts firmly using wrench as shown in Fig.2 in order to
secure the speaker.

The molded resin enclosure is highly durable, and
resistant
to
most damage, such as abrasion. To maintain appearance and
assure continued performance:
Protect the enclosure from environmental extremes.
Shelter the cabinet from direct sunlight to prevent colour
fading and possible long-term deterioration from UV
radiation.
Do not expose the speaker components to direct rain
or moisture. Excessive moisture can damage the cone
transducer, and in certain environments, moisture-born
particulates may contaminate the metal parts and the
voice coil gaps with prolonged exposure.
Do not mount the speaker in close proximity to heating or
air conditioning outlets and/or equipment.
Maintenance
Wipe the enclosure regularly, using a soft, dry cloth, or
a cloth moistened with a solution of water and normal
kitchen detergent. Do not use chemicals for cleaning the
enclosure, as some chemicals may damage the surface.
Do not disassemble the loudspeaker system, or remove
the front grill screen. There are no user serviceable
components within.
If
repairs are needed, contact a local
Authorized Panasonic Service Center.
