A hard starting Rato Engine can be due to several reasons related to the fuel or ignition systems. It could be something as simple as needing more fuel or opening the fuel cock. The air vent in the fuel tank cover might be clogged, or there could be an issue with the main jet, needle valve, or float. Old or contaminated fuel, including water in the fuel, can also cause this, as well as too much fuel in the engine. Other potential causes include using the wrong fuel grade, a faulty spark plug (either dirty, burned, damaged, or with an improper gap), a damaged high-tension cord or ignition coil, a magneto that has lost magnetism, or an abnormal gap between the ignition coil and flywheel.
