Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the Razor A5 Lux Scooter, providing essential information for safe operation, assembly, maintenance, and warranty details.

The Razor A5 Lux Scooter is designed for recreational use, offering a portable and enjoyable riding experience. It features a folding mechanism for easy storage and transport, adjustable handlebars to accommodate different rider heights, and a durable construction for sustained use. The scooter is intended for use on smooth, paved surfaces, away from motor vehicles and potential traffic hazards. It is crucial for riders to maintain a firm grip on the handlebars at all times and to be aware of their surroundings. The scooter's design emphasizes user safety through various warnings and instructions, highlighting the importance of proper riding attire and adherence to local laws and regulations.

Usage Features:

  • Unfolding the Scooter: For first-time use, the scooter needs to be unfolded. This involves placing the scooter on the ground, putting one foot on the deck plate, and pulling the joint release lever up while raising the T-bar until it securely locks into the upright position. The joint release lever is spring-loaded and will automatically lock. After unfolding, the left and right handlebars are inserted into the T-bar by pressing spring-loaded buttons, ensuring both are properly locked. Fingers should be kept clear of the pivoting mechanism during this process.
  • Adjusting Handlebar Height: The handlebar height can be adjusted by opening the quick-release lever, sliding the T-bar to the desired position, and then resecuring the quick-release lever. When raising the T-bar to its maximum height, a push button located directly below the quick-release lever must be depressed to unlock the T-bar. The tension of the quick-release lever can be adjusted by manually tightening or loosening an Allen bolt, ensuring it can be opened and closed by hand and the T-bar slides freely when open. Failure to properly secure the quick-release lever can lead to loss of control and falls.
  • Riding the Scooter: To ride, place one foot on the baseboard and push forward with the other foot. Steer with both hands on the handlebars. For enhanced cornering, riders should lean slightly into the direction of the turn. To stop, apply the brake by stepping on the rear brake. Razor recommends practicing braking at various speeds in an open, obstruction-free area before riding around others.
  • Safety Precautions: Riders must always wear safety equipment, including an approved safety helmet, knee pads, and elbow pads. Shoes with rubber soles and tied shoelaces are mandatory; riding barefoot or in sandals is prohibited. The scooter should only be ridden on smooth, paved surfaces, avoiding sharp bumps, drainage grates, sudden surface changes, and areas with water, sand, gravel, dirt, leaves, or other debris. Riding at night or in wet weather is not recommended due to impaired traction, braking, and visibility. Excessive speed, especially downhill, should be avoided. The brake can become hot with continuous use and should not be touched immediately after braking.
  • Supervision: Direct parental supervision is required for children and preteens. Children under eight years old should not use the scooter. Adults must assist children with initial assembly, folding/unfolding, and handlebar adjustments. Only one child should ride the scooter at a time.
  • Environmental Considerations: The scooter is not designed for use in skateboard parks, on steps, sloped driveways, hills, roadways, alleys, or swimming pool areas. It should not be used indoors on surfaces like carpet or flooring to prevent damage.

Maintenance Features:

  • Pre-Ride Checklist: Before each ride, check and secure all fasteners. Ensure the collar clamp, quick-release lever, and handlebar spring buttons are properly locked in place.
  • Collar Clamp: The collar clamp bolt(s) should be checked and tightened securely using a 5 mm Allen wrench. While factory-tightened, shipping or handling may cause loosening. Proper installation and tightening are critical to prevent loss of control.
  • Baseboard/Steering Column Adjusting Screw(s): Using a 3 mm Allen wrench, adjust the set screw at the baseboard until there is no free-play between the baseboard and the steering column. This adjustment should be snug, not overtightened. Verify the adjustment by releasing the steering column from the locked position and folding the scooter; the joint lever should not bind, and the folding movement should be smooth. The spring-loaded mechanism should automatically lock and be fully seated in the upright position.
  • Wheels and Bearings: Under normal conditions, Razor wheels and wheel bearings are maintenance-free. However, it is the owner's responsibility to periodically inspect them for wear and tear, proper axle tightness, and side-to-side play. If a wheel or bearing develops play, it indicates excess wear and requires immediate replacement with genuine Razor wheels. Worn wheels/bearings are considered normal wear-and-tear and are not covered by the warranty. Using non-genuine Razor wheels may affect safety and void the warranty.
  • Cleaning: The scooter should be wiped with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. Industrial cleaners, solvents, alcohol, or ammonia-based cleaners should not be used as they may damage surfaces, plastic components, or decal adhesive.
  • Replacement Parts: Worn or broken parts should be replaced immediately. Contact Razor customer service for assistance or visit their website.
  • General Inspection: Always inspect the scooter prior to riding. Regular inspection and maintenance can reduce the risk of injury. Check and secure all fasteners before every ride.

Warranty Information:

The manufacturer provides a 6-month limited warranty from the date of purchase, covering manufacturing defects. This warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, or damage, failure, or loss caused by improper assembly, maintenance, or storage. The warranty is void if the product is used for purposes other than recreation, modified in any way, or rented. The manufacturer is not liable for incidental or consequential loss or damage. Razor does not offer an extended warranty; any such warranty must be honored by the store where it was purchased. It is recommended to save the original sales receipt.
