Overview

This document is an owner's manual for the Razor A5 DLX™ Scooter, providing essential information for safe operation, assembly, maintenance, and customer support.

The Razor A5 DLX™ Scooter is a personal mobility device designed for recreational use, offering a convenient and enjoyable way to travel on smooth, paved surfaces. It features a foldable design for easy storage and transport, adjustable handlebars to accommodate different rider heights, and a durable construction for sustained use. The scooter is intended for use by children and preteens, with adult supervision recommended at all times, especially for younger riders.

Function Description:

The scooter operates by a rider placing one foot on the deck plate and pushing off with the other foot to gain momentum. Steering is achieved by holding the handlebars with both hands and leaning slightly in the desired direction. For controlled stops, the rider applies pressure to the rear brake. The scooter is equipped with an anti-rattle folding mechanism that allows for quick and secure folding and unfolding, making it portable and easy to store. The handlebars are adjustable in height, ensuring a comfortable and ergonomic riding position for various users. A quick-release lever facilitates handlebar height adjustments, while a collar clamp ensures the T-bar is securely fastened.

Usage Features:

  • Assembly and Set-up: The manual provides detailed instructions for unfolding the scooter for first-time use. This involves releasing the folding mechanism by pulling up the anti-rattle knob and raising the T-bar until it locks into an upright position. The anti-rattle knob is spring-loaded and automatically secures the T-bar when fully upright. To activate the anti-rattle feature, the knob should be twisted to the right to tighten, though over-tightening is not necessary. The left and right handlebars are then inserted into the T-bar by pressing spring-loaded buttons, ensuring both are properly locked and visible in the T-bar holes to prevent dislodging during use.
  • Handlebar Adjustment: The handlebar height can be adjusted by opening the quick-release lever, sliding the T-bar to the desired position, and then resecuring the lever. If the T-bar is at its maximum height, a push button located below the quick-release lever must be depressed to unlock it. The tension of the quick-release lever can be fine-tuned by tightening or loosening an Allen bolt, ensuring it can be opened and closed by hand and the T-bar slides freely when open. Proper securing of the quick-release lever is crucial to prevent the T-bar from telescoping while riding, which could lead to loss of control and falls.
  • Riding Practices: Riders are instructed to place one foot on the baseboard and push forward with the other foot. Both hands should remain on the handlebars for steering. Leaning slightly into turns enhances cornering. To stop, the rear brake should be applied. Razor recommends practicing braking at various speeds in an open, obstruction-free area.
  • Folding the Scooter: To fold the scooter, the anti-rattle feature must first be deactivated by twisting the knob to the left until loose, without needing to loosen it more than one full turn. The anti-rattle knob is then pulled up, and the T-bar is lowered to fold the scooter.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual emphasizes the importance of wearing safety equipment, including an approved helmet (with the chinstrap securely buckled), knee pads, and elbow pads. Shoes with tied shoelaces are mandatory, and riding barefoot or in sandals is prohibited. Riders should always maintain a hold on the handlebars. The scooter should only be used on smooth, paved surfaces, away from motor vehicles, and free of sharp bumps, drainage grates, and sudden surface changes that could cause the scooter to stop abruptly. Wet, sandy, gravelly, dirty, or debris-strewn surfaces should be avoided as they impair traction, braking, and visibility. Riding at night or when visibility is impaired is not recommended. The brake can get hot with continuous use and should not be touched immediately after braking. Excessive speed, especially on downhill rides, should be avoided. The scooter is not designed for steps, sloped driveways, hills, roadways, alleys, or swimming pool areas. Fingers and other body parts should be kept clear of the pivoting mechanism during folding and unfolding. Children under eight years old should not use the scooter, and all children and preteens require adult supervision. The maximum rider weight for the A5 DLX scooter is 220 lb (100 kg).
  • Pre-Ride Checklist: Before each ride, riders or supervising adults must check and secure all fasteners, including the collar clamp, quick-release lever, anti-rattle knob, and handlebar spring buttons, ensuring they are properly locked in place.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The scooter should be wiped with a damp cloth to remove dirt and dust. Industrial cleaners, solvents, alcohol-based, or ammonia-based cleaners should not be used as they may damage surfaces, plastic components, or decals.
  • Wheels and Bearings: Under normal conditions, Razor wheels and wheel bearings are maintenance-free. However, the owner or guardian is responsible for periodically inspecting the wheels for wear and tear, the axle for proper tightness, and the bearings for side-to-side play and loose parts. Any play in a wheel or bearing indicates excessive wear and necessitates immediate replacement with genuine Razor wheels. Worn wheels/bearings are considered normal wear-and-tear and are not covered by the Razor Warranty. Using non-genuine Razor wheels may compromise safety and void the warranty.
  • Replacement Parts: Frequently requested replacement parts are available through Razor retail partners, and a complete selection can be found on shop.razor.com.
  • Repair Centers: A list of authorized Razor repair centers is available online at www.razor.com, and additional customer service contact information is provided in the manual.
  • General Maintenance: Regular inspection and maintenance are crucial to reduce the risk of injury. All fasteners should be checked and secured before every ride, and worn or broken parts should be replaced immediately.

The manual also includes important warnings against using non-Razor products with the scooter, as they may not be compatible and will void the warranty. It advises checking local laws and regulations regarding scooter use and helmet requirements. Failure to use common sense and heed warnings increases the risk of serious injury. The product ID code, located on the white label of the product, is essential for warranty assistance and replacement parts.
