If a timber surround is to be fi tted, ensure it complies with Real Fires minimum clearance dimensions.
See installation drawing.
Timber surround
The burner is supplied boxed complete with fi rebox refl ectors, fascia panels, vermiculite, logs & coals. To make the
gas connection, place the burner in the fi rebox so that it is positioned central and controls drop into cut outs in
base of fi rebox. The gas pipe should be bent into position and marked for cutting. Remove the burner, cut the pipe
and make a fl are connection. Clean the glass panel as required to ensure there are no marks on the inside.
Remove the protective coating from the fascia panel for the glass side of the fi re (this is the panel without the
remote control receiver). Fit the fascia panel on the glass side of the fi re, the slots in the fascia drop onto the
screws in the sides of the fi rebox. Ensure that there are no marks on the fascia, it is di cult to clean once the
burner has been installed. Fit the burner in place. Connect the gas supply and test for soundness. The electrical
leads to the burner control and from the burner control to the fan will need to be connected. These are nylon plug
connectors. Line in 3 pin socket connects to 3 pin plug to control box 4 pin plug from control box connects to 4
pin socket to fan. The lead with the small jack plug connects to the remote control receiver board on the stainless
steel fascia panel. Leave this unplugged at this stage.
Installation of Real Fires burner into  rebox
Each fl ue length has a crimped end to join tightly to the next length. Each joint must be securely fi xed by at least
three stainless steel rivets. The fi rebox has two spigots for the two 1200mm x 150/200mm lengths fl ues to locate
over. The Y piece is then connected, joining the two fl ues into one. From the Y piece a single 200/ 250mm fl ue is
used to the termination of the fl ue. The fl ue lengths should be installed with the crimped end facing up.
The Firebox and the fl ue should be secured by fi xing with seismic strapping and/or brackets to framing. Flue bends
are available from Real Fires if the fl ue needs to be o set. Appropriate weatherproof roof fl ashing/ chimney cap-
ping must be used to comply with NZS 5261. Once the installation of the fi rebox and fl ue is complete, the build-
ing work around the fi replace can continue. Ensure any timber fi tted around the fl ue and top of fi rebox has
a minimum clearance of 25mm. Looking at the fi re from the open side there will be an electrical lead for the fan
from the left hand side of the fi rebox. This is intended to be connected by an electrician to a wall switch facing the
room. See installation drawing. The fi rebox is also pre wired for and optional electric On/O . This is the lead from
the right hand side of the fi rebox. If this option is used then this will also require wiring to a wall switch. (Please
ensure the electrical leads are not left behind the fi rebox and overlooked. It is di cult to gain access once the
giboard is fi xed)
