Chapter 7
COMPASS
The helm installed
compass is set by the
manufacturer to ensure
its accuracy. If in doubt
it can be zeroed in by
using a non-magnetic
screwdriver and turning
the compensator screws
as recommended. A
compass can be checked while underway for variance
and deviation by comparing your heading with a nautical
chart. Compass error is part of the calculation. Refer to
the compass manual in the owner’s information packet
for compensating details.
