Overview

The Remington Styling Pro Hair Dryer, model D5950XAU, is a styling tool designed to provide a smooth, salon-like finish. This appliance is intended for household use and comes with a 2-year warranty.

Function Description:

The primary function of this device is to dry and style hair. It utilizes Ceramic Ionic Technology with Tourmaline to reduce frizz and create a smooth, shiny finish. Tourmalines are precious gemstones that, when heated, emit natural ions and far-infrared heat, contributing to the hair dryer's performance. The hair dryer features multiple heat and speed settings, as well as a cool shot function to set hairstyles. It comes with two main attachments: a concentrator for smooth styling and a diffuser for enhancing natural curls and waves or adding volume.

Important Technical Specifications:

The hair dryer operates with various heat and speed settings. The heat settings include Low heat, Medium heat, and High heat. The speed settings are Off, Low speed, and High speed. The device is equipped with a thermostat that will automatically turn off if the temperature exceeds a safe level due to blocked air inlets or outlets, resetting once it cools down. The product conforms to radio frequency interference requirements.

Usage Features:

Before use, it is recommended to shampoo, condition, and towel-dry hair to remove excess moisture. The hair dryer is not suitable for use on synthetic wigs or hair extensions.

  • Quick Drying: For quick drying, select the high heat and high speed setting. Roughly dry hair, using a round brush or hand to shake out excess moisture, keeping the dryer in constant motion.
  • Fitting Attachments: The styling concentrator or diffuser attachment can be fitted by pushing it onto the front of the hair dryer.
  • Using the Concentrator: To achieve a smooth style, attach the concentrator and use a round hair brush (not included) while drying. It's best to partially dry hair before styling. The concentrator is also useful for styling fringes and can be used to dry roots upwards for lift and volume.
  • Using the Diffuser: To enhance natural curls and waves, turn your head upside down and gently place hair into the diffuser bowl, slightly rotating the dryer as you style. For extra volume at the roots, keep the head upright and place the diffuser against the top of the head, gently rotating it to massage the scalp with the diffuser fingers. When using the diffuser, it is recommended to use a medium heat/low speed setting. Caution: Do not use the diffuser on the highest heat setting.
  • Straightening: Select the high heat and high speed setting for initial rough drying. Once hair is nearly dry, attach the concentrator nozzle and reduce the heat/speed. Section hair and straighten bottom layers first using a round brush, guiding the concentrator from roots to tips. Continue with mid-section and top layers.
  • Natural Wavy Texture: Use the low heat and high speed setting. 'Scrunch' sections of hair with fingers into the palm of the hand while directing airflow through the fingers. For more volume, lean forward and dry hair in an upside-down position.
  • Styling: Set the dryer to the low heat and low speed setting and attach the concentrator nozzle for precision drying. Section hair and style using a round brush. Direct airflow onto the hair in the desired direction. For additional hold, hold the airflow for 2-5 seconds on each section while curling under or over.
  • Cool Shot: The cool shot button is used to set hairstyles. Squeeze and hold the button to rapidly cool and hold hair once it has been styled.

Maintenance Features:

The hair dryer is designed to be virtually maintenance-free for household use.

  • Cleaning: When cleaning is necessary, turn off all switches and disconnect the hair dryer from the power outlet.
  • Air Inlet Grille and Filter: To maintain peak performance, regularly clean the air inlet grille and filter at the back of the dryer. To access these, grasp the air inlet grille retaining ring and twist it anti-clockwise until it unlocks, then pull it away. The filter can be cleaned with a soft brush or a vacuum cleaner. To reattach, align the lugs on the retaining ring with the notches on the side of the dryer and turn clockwise to lock.
  • Exterior Cleaning: The exterior of the hair dryer can be cleaned by wiping it with a damp cloth.
  • Cord Care: Never wrap the cord around the appliance as this can cause premature wear and breakage. Handle the cord carefully to avoid jerking, twisting, or straining, especially at plug connections. If the cord becomes twisted during use, periodically straighten it.
  • Storage: When not in use, unplug the unit, allow it to cool, and store it in a safe, dry location out of reach of children. The hang loop can be used for convenient storage, ensuring it is not splashed with water.

Safety Precautions:

  • Always unplug the hair dryer immediately after use, especially when used in a bathroom, as the proximity of water presents a hazard even when switched off.
  • Do not place or store the appliance where it can fall into a bath or sink.
  • Do not use near bathtubs, showers, basins, or other vessels containing water.
  • Do not place or drop into water or other liquid. If it falls into water, unplug it immediately and do not reach into the water.
  • An appliance should never be left unattended when plugged into a power outlet.
  • The appliance must be switched off at all times other than when actually being used to dry hair.
  • Keep air openings free of lint, fluff, and hair. Never block air openings or place the dryer on a soft surface where openings may become blocked.
  • Do not use on people who are sleeping.
  • Never drop or insert any object into any opening.
  • Do not use outdoors or where aerosol (spray) products are being used or where oxygen is being administered.
  • Do not direct hot air towards the eyes or other heat-sensitive areas.
  • Attachments may become hot during and after use; allow them to cool before handling.
  • Keep hair away from the air inlet grille to prevent it from being drawn into the appliance.
  • The installation of a residual current device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA is advisable in the electrical circuit supplying the bathroom for additional protection.
  • The power cord must be regularly checked for wear and tear. Cease using the product immediately if the power cord shows any signs of damage.

Disposal/Recycling:

E-waste (anything with a plug, battery, or cord) must be disposed of through controlled recycling facilities and not in general household waste. Contact your local council or household waste disposal service for information on recycling electrical and battery-operated appliances.
