- Cut out the bottom and top conning tower sections 16.1 and
16.2. Drill holes in the bottom section as shown, and file the
slot out to shape (F).
- Glue the tubular rivet 16.3 in place and glue the washer 16.4
on the rivet.
- Push the tubular rivet 16.5 through the plate 16.6 and pull
the rivet nut 16.7 into the hole.
- Fit the screw 16.8 through the rivet 16.3 and screw it into the
assembly 16.5 - 16.7 for a few turns.
- Place the conning tower on the boat temporarily. When you
place the plate on the side brackets 11.1 the screw should
be pushed up by about 4 mm. It must not jam!
- Remove the conning tower and apply Stabilit-Express to the
side brackets 11.1 where they make contact with it. Replace
the conning tower and allow the glued joint to set hard.
- Glue the conning tower components in place.
- Drill the 5 mm ø hole in the front face of the top conning
tower section.
- Make up the bottom lamp housings 16.9 and the rear hou-
sing panels 16.10 as shown and glue them in the lamp
recesses.
- Measure off the position of the holes for the handrails and
steps and drill them.
- Bend the handrails 16.11 to shape, slip the split pins 16.12
and sleeves 16.13 on them and plug them into the conning
tower. Splay the split pins on the inside and glue the parts
together with cyano.
- Bend the steps 16.14 to shape, plug them in and glue them
in place.
34
- Drill a central 1.5 mm ø hole in two railing stanchions 16.15
and file back two others in the centre as shown.
- Bend the handrail 16.16 to the shape shown in the drawing,
and assemble the railing and split pins 16.17 on the conning
tower. Position and align the railing carefully, noting the posi-
tion of the holes and slots.
- Bend the rail 16.18 to shape and plug it into the drilled and
slotted stanchions.
- Insert the flagstock 16.19 and the stern light holder 16.20.
- Align the railing components accurately and solder the parts
together carefully. Use a hot soldering iron applied for as
short a time as possible to avoid damaging the plastic parts.
- Cut slots in both sides of the upper deflector flange for the
ends of the handrail and glue the ends in the slots.
- Drill the four 1.5 mm holes for the antenna hooks.
- Apply a fillet of glue round the railing stanchions inside the
bottom conning tower section.
- Cut down the lamp cases 16.21 as shown, paint them and
glue them to the conning tower.
- Drill 1.5 mm ø horizontal holes in the periscope bases 16.22
at the stated height X.
- Fit the screws 16.23 and 16.24 in the bases.
- Fit the nuts 16.25 on the front end of the screws; screw them
in flush and secure them with a drop of glue.
- Trim the periscopes 16.26 and 16.27 as shown in the dra-
wing and glue them in the periscope bases.
- Carefully position the periscope bases on the conning tower
and glue them in place (F).
- Insert the hydroplane control mechanism in the tubular rivet
11.2. Tighten the screw 16.24 to the point where the hydro-
plane control mechanism is vertical. This is the basic setting.
