Stage 17, the deck railing, parts 17.1 - 17.7

- The previously drilled wooden board is now used as a sol-
dering jig LH to make up the railings. Push four sleeves 17.1
in the board to form railing stanchions for the forward deck
railing.
- Bend the handrail 17.2 to shape and secure it with the split
pins 17.3.
- Solder the parts together.
- Make up the second handrail in the same way.

- Position the railings on the deck and glue them in place.
- File a recess in the rear railing stanchions 17.4 to accept the
rail 17.5.
- Bend the handrail 17.6 to shape, assemble the railing com-
ponents on the soldering jig using the split pins 17.7 and sol-
der the parts together (F).
- Glue the completed railing to the deck.

- Apply the floor grid (sticker) to the gun plinth (F).
- Fix the plinth 18.1 to the front deck using the screw 18.2.
Apply a drop of Loctite to the screw.
- Tighten the screw to the point where the plinth is still just
free to rotate.
- Glue the gun barrel 18.3 to the muzzle plug 18.4.
- Place the gun barrel 18.3 between the gun mount compo-
nents 18.5 and glue this assembly to the plinth, taking care
not to glue the screw at the same time.
- Drill out the four hand-wheels 18.6 to 1.5 mm ø
- Fit the two shafts 18.7 in the holes of the gun components
and glue the hand wheels in place.
- Bend the angle drive 18.8 to the shape shown and insert it
together with the two remaining hand-wheels.
- Attach the two bars 18.10 to the single-edged brackets 18.9
and glue them in the holes in the gun mount.
- Make up the two-edged brackets 18.11 taking care to pro-
duce a handed pair.
- Glue the two bars 18.10 on top of the brackets and glue
these assemblies to the gun mount.
