- Attach the solder tag 20.15 to the black wire attached to the
speed controller and screw it to the negative terminal 20.16
using the nut 20.18.
- Remove about 8 mm of insulation from the red wire and tin
the bare copper end.
- Install the speed controller using the double-sided tape 20.6
and connect it to the receiver.
- Note: the relay module forms a central safety switch which
ensures that the entire power system is isolated from the
power supply when the receiver is switched off.
- Mount the relay 20.20 on the baseplate using the two self-
tapping screws 20.21.
- Wire up the receiver cable attached to the relay as
shown in the drawing. Remove the white wire from the
plug housing and fit it in the empty slot.
- Solder a tag to one end of the red connecting cable 20.22,
tin the other end and connect it to the relay and the positive
terminal 20.16. Connect the red wire attached to the speed
controller to the centre terminal.
- Before carrying out a check of the working systems screw
the propellers 20.23 on the propeller shafts and tighten them
against the locknuts. The screw marked „L“ should be fitted
on the left-hand shaft.
Checking the working systems
- Place the submarine in the boatstand.
- Install the batteries, connect them and secure them with the
rubber bands 20.24.
- Connect the (non-insulated) plug attached to the motor
power cable to the speed controller.
- Switch the motors on and check their direction of rotation:
when you move the throttle stick forward (full throttle) both
propellers should rotate inwards (i.e. in opposite directions).
If this is not the case refer to the speed controller instruc-
tions for assistance.
- If not, swap over the wires of the motors
- Push the insulator over the plug contacts.
- Check the steering functions.
- Any cables still hanging loose should now be secured with
strips of tape so that there is no chance of them becoming
jammed or fouling the pressure vessel when you slide the
base frame in and out.

- Remove the slotted aft deck.
- Fit the gland nut 21.2 and hose 21.3 on the valve 21.1.
Secure the hose by shrinking the heat-shrink sleeve 21.4
over it. Heat the sleeve gently to avoid damage.
- Screw this assembly in the valve shaft.
- Run the hose out through one of the large side slots. Fit a 5
mm long piece of sleeve on the end to prevent it slipping
back into the slot.
- Fill the stern tubes with shaft grease before placing the boat
in the water. A disposable syringe makes a good tool for
injecting the grease. Connect the hoses to the 5 mm tube
21.5 to seal them.
- Assemble the boat and engage the retaining screw. Tighten
the screw to the point where the O-ring is compressed by
about 1 mm. Check the width of joint ga).
- The next step is to check that the pressure vessel is water-
tight: the initial test can be made just by blowing air into it to
the point where the rubber bellows inflate. Leave the model
under pressure for about an hour. When you undo the gland
nut on the valve you should hear the air hiss as it escapes.
If there is an obvious reduction in internal pressure seek the
leak and eliminate it.
- Install the aft deck again.
- Make up the double tensioning system for the forward long
antenna from parts 21.6 - 21.9 as shown in the drawing.
Connect the tensioning system to the conning tower and
close the S-hook.
- Attach two S-hooks 21.8 to the rubber band 21.10.
- Thread ten insulators 21.7 onto the long antenna 21.11.
- Connect the S-hooks on the rubber band to the triangular
block 21.9 and the long antenna.
- Place the antenna under light tension and attach it to the
split pin fitted to the bow net saw.
- Attach the solder tags 21.21 to the rearmost screws on the
aft deck.
