F. Recording
WeÕre ready for recording now. Once you have set the Input destination (routed the Input), enabled the
Track for recording and set the record level, youÕre ready to begin.
1) Press REC. The red transport LED light will begin flashing.
2) Press PLAY. The green LED will light up and you will now be recording to disk.
3) Press STOP when youÕre finished recording.
4) To return to the beginning of the song, press ZERO.
5) Press PLAY to listen to what you just recorded.
So, there you have it. You just recorded audio on the VS-880. Continue to practice the above procedure
until you feel comfortable with the basic process of recording. Everything we have done up to this point is
very standard. You will probably repeat this process hundreds of times with your VS-880. It will get easier and
you will begin to get very fast with the controls. The good thing is, the VS-880 will be able to keep up with
you because it is a Òrandom accessÓ environment. You will never have to wait for the VS-880 to rewind all the
way back to the beginning of a song. Just press the ZERO button and you will instantly be back at measure 1.
Listening with Effects
With the VS8F-1 (optional) you can add effects to an incoming signal or recorded Track. To do this, set the
VS-880 to record an incoming signal as in steps A-E in the Basic Recording section (p.12-13) and continue
with the following procedure.
A. Route Channel 1 to EFFECTS 1
Just as we had to route the Input signal to a Track destination when we were recording, we need to also
route the signal to the effects processor if we want to hear effects.
1) Press the CH EDIT button 1. Now, the effects settings we make will be for Channel 1.
2) Next, hold SHIFT and press the CH EDIT button 7 (EFFECT-1). Since we held shift, we accessed the
feature with the border around it, which in this case is EFFECT-1.

3) Now, turn the TIME/VALUE dial clockwise to select ÒPstFaderÓ in the display. Remember our signal
path diagram on page 8? Well, we just setup the signal coming in on Input A 1 to be sent to the effects
processor after it leaves the mixer, or ÒPost Fader.Ó
B. Select Effects
Now that we have put the effects processor into the signal path, letÕs decide which of the VS8F-1Õs 200
effects we would like to use.
1) Press the EFFECT button under EDIT CONDITION.
2) The display will read ÒEFFECT 1?Ó Press the YES/ENTER button to confirm that we will be entering the
edit mode for EFFECT-1.

4) Press the YES/ENTER button, to confirm and activate your effect choice.
