Overview

The Roland V-02HD Remote is a dedicated iPad application designed to control the Roland V-02HD unit, a video mixer and switcher. This application allows users to remotely manage various functions of the V-02HD, providing a flexible and intuitive control interface.

Connection and Setup

To use the V-02HD Remote, you must first establish a physical connection between your iPad and the V-02HD unit. This is achieved by connecting the iPad's USB port to the V-02HD's USB port. You will need a compatible USB cable (Lightning-USB camera adapter or USB Type-C™ port) and potentially a Lightning-USB camera adapter, depending on your iPad model. Once connected, ensure the V-02HD unit is powered on. The V-02HD Remote application will then display the connection status, indicating whether it is "ONLINE" (connected) or "OFFLINE" (not connected). An "ONLINE" status means you can remotely control the V-02HD from your iPad. If the connection status is not "ONLINE," troubleshooting involves re-checking the connection between the iPad and the V-02HD unit.

Display and Navigation

The application features a display-change button that allows users to switch between different screens, providing access to various control panels. The main interface typically shows a visual representation of the V-02HD's controls, including input/output status, effect settings, and audio mixer parameters. The [MENU] button provides access to the settings screen of the V-02HD unit, where more detailed configurations can be made. Tapping the [Back] button returns you to the previous screen. It's important to note that some parameters may not be editable directly from the V-02HD Remote application.

Video Switching and Effects

The V-02HD Remote offers comprehensive control over video switching and effects. The operation panel on the iPad mirrors the physical controls of the V-02HD, allowing users to manage various video transitions such as MIX, WIPE, PinP (Picture-in-Picture), and KEY. The OUTPUT FADE knob on the application controls the simultaneous fade-in/out of program output video and audio. Turning the knob counterclockwise fades the video to a black screen, while turning it clockwise outputs a captured still image as an instant cut.

The AUTO SWITCHING feature allows for automatic switching of video inputs or preset memories. When [ON], it can automatically switch between INPUT 1 and INPUT 2 videos (Input scan) or cycle through preset memories 1-8 (Preset memory scan). The VFX section enables users to edit visual effect settings, offering control over various parameters to enhance the video output.

Preset Memory Management

The application includes a robust preset memory system. Memory selection buttons [1]-[8] allow users to save and recall various settings, including EFFECT TYPE (video switching and compositing), VFX, and audio configurations. When a memory select button is tapped, the saved settings are recalled, and the button illuminates. It's crucial to understand that certain settings, such as the PRESET MEMORY menu, CTL/EXP menu, CAPTURE IMAGE menu, and SYSTEM menu, are not saved in memory; only one set of these settings is stored for the V-02HD unit.

The [INIT] button, when tapped and then followed by tapping a memory select button, initializes the content of the selected memory. Similarly, the [SAVE] button, when tapped and then followed by tapping a memory select button, saves the current state of the operating panel to the chosen memory slot.

Audio Mixer and Editing

The V-02HD Remote provides an integrated audio mixer for managing sound. The [SETUP] button in the audio mixer section allows users to select the channel for which they want to edit sound characteristics. Level meters display the volume levels of input and output audio, providing visual feedback. The [MUTE] button mutes (silences) the input and output audio, while audio level faders allow for precise adjustment of the volume levels.

The Audio edit section provides advanced control over sound characteristics. Users can edit the character of the sound for the channel selected via the [SETUP] button. This includes parameters such as noise gate, compressor, equalizer, and other audio processing tools, enabling fine-tuning of the audio output.

Maintenance and Updates

For detailed information on setting items and advanced configurations, users are directed to refer to the V-02HD Reference Manual, specifically the "Menu List" (PDF). It is important to ensure that the V-02HD unit is running a compatible firmware version (1.1 or later) to guarantee full functionality with the V-02HD Remote application. Regular updates to the V-02HD unit's firmware are recommended to ensure optimal performance and access to the latest features.
