Overview

The RUPES Random-Orbital Pneumatic Sanders, including models RH323, RH323A, RH323T, RH326, RH326A, RH326T, RH329, RH329A, RH329T, RH353, RH353A, RH353T, RH356, RH356A, RH356T, RH359, RH359A, and RH359T, are designed for sanding operations. These tools are powered by compressed air and are intended for professional use.

Function Description

These pneumatic sanders are designed for random-orbital sanding, which combines orbital motion with rotation of the backing pad. This dual action helps to minimize swirl marks and achieve a smooth finish on various surfaces. The tools are equipped with a speed control mechanism, allowing the operator to adjust the revolutions per minute (RPM) according to the specific application and material being worked on.

The sanders are available in different configurations:

  • Standard models (RH323, RH326, RH329, RH353, RH356, RH359): These models do not feature an integrated dust extraction system. They are designed for use in environments where dust collection is managed externally or is not a primary concern.
  • Centralized extraction models (RH323A, RH326A, RH329A, RH353A, RH356A, RH359A): These tools are designed to be connected to an external dust extraction system (not supplied). They feature a suction shroud (8) and a connection for a dust suction pipe (6) to capture sanding dust at the source, ensuring a cleaner working environment.
  • Self-vacuum models (RH323T, RH326T, RH329T, RH353T, RH356T, RH359T): These models incorporate a self-generated vacuum system, typically utilizing a filter unit (13) and a dust suction pipe (14) to collect dust directly into a bag or container. This provides a convenient, integrated dust management solution.

All models feature a compressed air on/off lever (2) for activation and deactivation, and a speed control (3) to regulate the RPM. The backing pad (9) is designed for quick and easy attachment of abrasive paper discs using a hook-and-loop system.

Important Technical Specifications

The RUPES Random-Orbital Pneumatic Sanders operate with a maximum working pressure of 6.2 bar (90 PSI) and have an air consumption of 340 liters per minute. The no-load speed (RPM) for all models ranges from 0 to 11,000 revolutions per minute.

Key differentiating specifications among the models include:

  • Orbit Diameter (Ø orbit):
    • 3 mm: RH323, RH323A, RH323T, RH353, RH353A, RH353T
    • 6 mm: RH326, RH326A, RH326T, RH356, RH356A, RH356T
    • 9 mm: RH329, RH329A, RH329T, RH359, RH359A, RH359T The orbit diameter determines the aggressiveness of the sanding action, with smaller orbits providing a finer finish and larger orbits offering faster material removal.
  • Pad Diameter (Ø pad):
    • 125 mm: RH323, RH323A, RH323T, RH326, RH326A, RH326T, RH329, RH329A, RH329T
    • 150 mm: RH353, RH353A, RH353T, RH356, RH356A, RH356T, RH359, RH359A, RH359T The pad diameter dictates the size of the abrasive discs that can be used with the tool.
  • Extraction System:
    • NO: Standard models (RH323, RH326, RH329, RH353, RH356, RH359)
    • CENTRALIZED: Centralized extraction models (RH323A, RH326A, RH329A, RH353A, RH356A, RH359A)
    • SELF VACUUM (AUTOASPIRANTE): Self-vacuum models (RH323T, RH326T, RH329T, RH353T, RH356T, RH359T)
  • Weight: All models have a consistent weight of 0.800 kg, ensuring lightweight and ergonomic operation.

Noise and vibration levels are also provided:

  • Sound Pressure Level (LpA): Ranges from 72 dB(A) to 76 dB(A) depending on the model.
  • Sound Power Level (LwA): Ranges from 83 dB(A) to 87 dB(A).
  • Vibration Level (3-axis LpA): Ranges from 2.80 m/s² to 3.20 m/s².
  • Vibration Level (1-axis LwA): Ranges from <2.50 m/s² to 2.80 m/s². These values are measured according to UNI EN ISO 15744 and EN ISO 28927 standards and are provided for comparative risk assessment.

Usage Features

  • Safety First: Always disconnect the tool from the compressed air supply before performing any adjustments or maintenance. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including eye protection, ear protection, and a mask, especially when generating dust.
  • Speed Adjustment: The speed control lever (3) allows for precise adjustment of the sanding speed from OFF to MAX. The optimal speed depends on the type of abrasive paper and the material being worked on.
  • Backing Pad Replacement: Damaged backing pads should be replaced immediately with original RUPES accessories to ensure optimal results and prevent excessive vibrations. The backing pad is secured by a screw (10) and can be removed using the provided spanner (12).
  • Abrasive Disc Attachment: The backing pad surface is designed for easy and quick adhesion of abrasive paper discs. Ensure that the holes on the abrasive disc align with the extraction holes on the backing pad for effective dust removal (if applicable).
  • Compressed Air Connection: The tool requires a suitable compressor that meets the specified technical characteristics. All connecting hoses and pipes must be appropriate for the required pressure and air quantity. The compressed air connection (5) is typically a 1/4" thread.
  • Starting and Stopping: To start the tool, push the control lever (2) towards the tool body and hold it. To stop, release the lever.
  • Dust Extraction:
    • For centralized extraction models, connect the tool to an external dust extraction system.
    • For self-vacuum models, ensure the filter unit (13) and dust suction pipe (14) are properly connected.
  • Pre-Operation Check: Before starting, verify that the speed control is at MAX, the compressed air line is in good condition, the start lever functions correctly (even without air supply), all components are correctly mounted and undamaged, and the tool is connected to an appropriate dust extraction system (for RH..A and RH..T series).
  • Test Run: Perform a test run to check for unusual vibrations and ensure the abrasive discs are correctly applied. If anomalies occur, stop the tool immediately and resolve the issue. Secure the workpiece to prevent movement during sanding.

Maintenance Features

  • General Maintenance: All maintenance and cleaning operations must be performed with the tool disconnected from the compressed air supply. Only qualified personnel should carry out maintenance and repair work. After each use, or as needed, clean the tool body with a jet of compressed air to remove dust.
  • Lubrication: Regular lubrication is crucial for the tool's longevity. Every 50 hours of operation, insert 2-3 drops of specific oil (11) into the compressed air connection (5), holding the tool vertically with the connection facing upwards. After lubrication, connect the tool to the air supply and run it for a few seconds. Lubricate the tool before storing it for long periods of inactivity. Damages resulting from incorrect or inadequate lubrication are not covered by the warranty.
  • Authorized Service: The user should not perform any other maintenance operations. For internal parts like bearings and gears, contact an authorized RUPES service center. Use only original RUPES spare parts.
  • Disposal: At the end of its life, the product must not be disposed of with household waste or released into the environment. It must be taken to authorized recycling centers. Proper disposal contributes to health and environmental protection, while illegal disposal may result in penalties.

The RUPES Random-Orbital Pneumatic Sanders are CE compliant and listed under CU TR compliant, indicating adherence to European and Eurasian safety standards. The technical file is maintained at RUPES S.p.A., Via Marconi, 3A, 20080 Vermezzo (Mi), Italy.
