Overview

This document describes the Russell Hobbs Multi Cooker, a versatile kitchen appliance designed for a variety of cooking methods.

Function Description

The Russell Hobbs Multi Cooker is a multifunctional appliance capable of preparing a wide range of dishes. Its primary functions include:

  • Rice Cooking: Specifically designed to cook rice, with a capacity for up to 10 cups. It automatically switches to a "keep warm" mode after cooking.
  • Slow Cooking: Ideal for dishes that require long, gentle cooking, such as stews and braised meats. This program typically runs for 8 hours and also includes a "keep warm" mode.
  • Stewing: Similar to slow cooking but with a shorter default time of 1 hour, suitable for various stews. It also transitions to "keep warm" mode.
  • Meat Program: Allows for cooking various types of meat, with adjustable cooking times based on weight and type. It includes a "keep warm" mode.
  • Soup Program: Designed for preparing soups, with a default cooking time of 1 hour. It offers flexibility in adjusting cooking duration and includes a "keep warm" mode.
  • Yoghurt Making: Facilitates the creation of homemade yoghurt, with a default fermentation time of 6 hours. This program does not keep the yoghurt warm after completion.
  • Bread Making: Suitable for baking bread, with a default cooking time of 3 hours. It includes a "keep warm" mode.
  • Fish Program: Optimized for cooking fish, with a default time of 20 minutes. It also includes a "keep warm" mode.
  • Steaming: Allows for steaming various foods like vegetables, with a default time of 30 minutes. It includes a "keep warm" mode.
  • Porridge/Risotto Program: Designed for cooking porridge and risotto, with a default time of 1 hour. It includes a "keep warm" mode.
  • Cake Program: Enables baking cakes, with a default time of 40 minutes. It includes a "keep warm" mode.
  • BROWN/SAUTE/SOFTEN/BOIL: This is a pre-cooking function that uses the steaming program at its default setting with the lid open. It operates as a high-temperature pan for 30 minutes, allowing users to brown meat and vegetables, sauté ingredients, soften onions, celery, leeks, or pre-heat cooking liquids. This feature eliminates the need for a separate pan during preparation.

Usage Features

The Multi Cooker is designed for user-friendly operation with several convenient features:

  • Control Panel: Features a display that shows cooking time, remaining time, and program options.
  • Menu Button: Used to select the desired cooking program from a range of options including meat, soup, yoghurt, bread, fish, steam, porridge/risotto, and cake.
  • Dedicated Program Buttons: Large buttons at the bottom of the control panel for quick selection of rice cooking, slow cooking, and stewing. These buttons can override the menu and start button.
  • Timer Function: Allows users to set a delay for when they want their food to be ready. This feature is available for soup, yoghurt, bread, steam, and porridge programs. The delay time is set using 'h' and 'min' buttons.
  • Adjustable Cooking Times: For most programs, users can adjust the cooking time using 'h' (hour) and 'min' (minute) buttons while the display time is blinking. The 'min' button typically moves through options in 5-minute increments (10, 15, 20, etc.), and the 'h' button through hour increments.
  • Start Button: Initiates the selected cooking program.
  • Stop Button: Used to stop the appliance. Pressing it once stops the appliance if the display is not counting down, and twice if it is counting down.
  • Keep Warm Mode: Automatically activated after most cooking programs are complete, indicated by a glowing light. This feature keeps food warm until serving. It can also be manually activated after a program that doesn't support it, by pressing the start button when the light is blinking.
  • Removable Bowl: The cooking bowl is removable, making it easy to measure ingredients, cook, and clean. It should be given a quarter turn each way when placed in the cooker to ensure good contact with the heating element.
  • Measuring Cup: A 180ml rice measuring cup is supplied for accurate ingredient measurement.
  • Internal Scales: The bowl features internal scales for measuring rice (2 to 10 cups), porridge (1½ to 1½ cups), and congee (1 to 3 cups) directly.
  • Steam Release: Users are advised to keep hands, arms, and face clear of escaping steam during operation.
  • Standby Mode: If no action is taken for 2 minutes while setting cooking times, the appliance will revert to standby mode.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and maintenance ensure the longevity and safe operation of the Multi Cooker:

  • Cooling Down: Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
  • Removable Parts: All removable parts, including the bowl, filter lid, and inner lid, can be hand washed.
  • Filter and Inner Lid Disassembly: The filter lid can be levered out of the main lid. The filter itself can be disassembled by holding the filter lid fast and turning the rest of the filter towards the open padlock symbol, then pressing on the tabs at the bottom of the inner lid to pull it off.
  • Exterior Cleaning: All external surfaces of the appliance should be wiped with a clean, damp cloth.
  • Dishwasher Safety: No part of the appliance is suitable for washing in a dishwasher.
  • Reassembly: After cleaning, the filter should be reassembled and replaced in the lid, followed by replacing the inner lid.
  • Post-Use Rest: After using the appliance, it is recommended to let it rest for 15 minutes before using it again.
