Usage Features

Assembly: The carpet washer requires some assembly. Users need to unpack all components and set them aside. The carpet washer is placed in an upright position. The handle is placed onto the base unit, securing it with two screws using a cross-head screwdriver. It is crucial not to overtighten the screws to avoid damaging the vacuum without the handle screws in place.

Preparation for Cleaning: Before using the carpet washer, it is important to vacuum the carpet thoroughly. Any shampoo purchased separately should be used. Furniture should be removed from the room if possible. If not, plastic or foil should be placed under furniture legs to prevent damage from moisture. The carpet should be dry before cleaning.

Filling the Water Tank: To fill the water tank, the water tank release handle is tilted upwards, and the water tank is lifted away from the carpet washer. 1-4 capfuls of Russell Hobbs cleaning solution are added, followed by warm tap water (max 40°C). The cap is then replaced. It is important to use only the recommended Russell Hobbs cleaning solution. Incorrect cleaning solutions can cause excessive foaming and may prevent the machine from working effectively, potentially voiding the warranty.

Starting the Cleaning Process: The cord is plugged into an electrical socket. The machine is turned on using the on/off switch located on the side of the machine. To begin cleaning, the handle release pedal is lowered, placing the machine into the cleaning position. The trigger is pressed to pull the carpet washer in a backward motion. The trigger is released, and the unit is pushed forward in the same path to agitate and remove dirty water and solution from the carpet. For heavily soiled areas, this process may need to be repeated.

Important Cleaning Guidelines: For best cleaning results, a steady, moderate, forward and backward motion should be used. Users should always work from back to front across the room to avoid stepping on wet carpet and lowering the pile.

Emptying the Carpet Washer: After cleaning, or when the dirty water tank is full, the release tab behind the handle is pressed to remove the dirty water tank. To empty, the dirty water tank outlet cap is twisted to the left and removed. The tank should be emptied, rinsed, and replaced. The carpet cleaner should be allowed to dry before storage.

Problem Solving: The manual includes a problem-solving guide for common issues:

  • Cleaner Won't Run: Possible causes include not properly plugged into outlet, no electricity in wall outlet, on/off switch not turned on, or blown fuse/tripped breaker. Solutions involve plugging in firmly, resetting circuit breaker or replacing fuse, pushing on/off switch to on, or checking fuse or breaker.
  • Water keeps leaking from the brush bar: Possible causes are none recommended cleaning solution used or trigger partially blocked. Solutions include using warm water 40 degrees and flushing the unit, and pressing and releasing the trigger whilst pressing and releasing the trigger.
  • The carpet feels wet/water logged: Possible cause is too much cleaning solution used in one area. Solution is to use less cleaning solution over the cleaning area and run the carpet cleaner over the area without pressing the trigger to remove excess water.
  • The stain on the carpet does not appear to be cleaned: Possible cause is pre-treatment is necessary prior to using the carpet cleaner. Solution is to use a pre-treatment cleaner on the stained area and brush away prior to using the carpet cleaner.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning the Filters: After cleaning, the carpet should be allowed to dry completely. It is not necessary to walk on the carpet, but if it is, white towels should be placed on the areas to be walked on. If the carpet is not dry, plastic or foil should be placed under furniture to prevent staining. The dirty water tank should be thoroughly cleaned with warm water (max 40°C) tap water.

There are two filters in the carpet washer that must be cleaned regularly to maintain performance:

  • Dirty Water Tank Filter: This filter is located in the top of the dirty water tank. To clean, remove the filter cover from the top of the dirty water tank, remove the filter, and rinse with warm water. Allow it to dry thoroughly before storing.
  • Pre-Motor Filter: This filter is located in the base unit. To clean, remove the dirty water tank. The filter is located in the base unit. Rinse with warm water and allow it to dry before reuse or storage.
    • NOTE: Do not store the cleaner with solution in the clean water tank or dirty water in the dirty water tank. Mineral deposits and mildew can form which will affect the performance of the carpet washer on next use.
