The SAFE-T-ALERT™ 70 Series is a combination Carbon Monoxide (CO) and Gas Alarm designed for recreational vehicles (RVs). This device integrates a powerful alarm system into a single compact unit, capable of detecting both Carbon Monoxide and explosive gases such as Propane (LPG) and Methane (Natural Gas) simultaneously. It utilizes the latest microprocessor technology combined with two independent, self-cleaning electronic sensors. The detector is UL Listed for RV use for CO, Propane, and Methane detection. It can also detect other explosive gases not tested by UL, including Acetone, Alcohol, Butane, and Gasoline, which may be present in an RV. To prevent false alarms from brief gas "puffs," the detector incorporates a recheck cycle before alarming.
The primary function of the SAFE-T-ALERT™ 70 Series alarm is to protect RV occupants from the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning and propane gas explosions. CO is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and highly poisonous gas produced by incomplete combustion of any fuel type. Sources in and around an RV can include gas or diesel engine exhaust, portable space heaters, gas stoves and ovens, furnaces, defective engine exhaust systems, portable grills, nearby RVs, portable generators, generator exhaust, and other propane-powered appliances. Propane gas, while often odorized, can lead to explosions if a leak goes undetected, especially if occupants have a diminished sense of smell due to age, colds, allergies, tobacco use, alcohol, or drugs.
The alarm provides both visual and audible signals for different conditions. A steady green LED indicates normal operation. In a CO alarm condition, the red CO LED flashes, and the alarm sounds 4 "BEEPS" followed by a 5-second silence, indicating CO levels over 70 ppm. In a propane gas alarm condition, the red LED flashes, and the alarm sounds a steady tone, indicating dangerous levels of propane or methane gas. If both CO and gas alarms are triggered simultaneously, the gas alarm takes higher priority, with the gas LED flashing red and the beeper sounding, while the CO LED remains solid red until CO is ventilated.
The alarm also features a "Memory Feature" that records the approximate peak level of CO that activated it, indicated by chirps and blinks of the CO LED: 1 chirp/green blink for clear memory, 2 chirps/red blinks for below 100 ppm, 3 chirps/red blinks for below 200 ppm, and 4 chirps/red blinks for above 200 ppm.
