Overview

This document provides owner's instructions and a cooking guide for a Samsung Microwave Oven, model MW71B. It emphasizes safety, proper usage, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of the appliance.

The primary function of this device is to cook and reheat food using microwave energy. It is designed for countertop use and offers various power levels and a timer function to accommodate different cooking needs. The microwave oven features a turntable system that ensures even cooking by rotating the food during operation.

Usage Features:

The microwave oven is equipped with a control panel that includes a Variable Cooking Power Control Knob and a Timer Knob.

Cooking/Reheating:

To cook or reheat food, users first place the food in the center of the turntable and close the door. The process involves two main steps:

  1. Setting the Power Level: The Variable Cooking Power Control Knob allows users to select the desired power level. The available power levels range from LOW (100 W) to HIGH (800 W), including specific settings for REHEAT (700 W), MEDIUM HIGH (600 W), MEDIUM (450 W), MEDIUM LOW (300 W), and DEFROST (180 W). The maximum power setting is 800 W. Users can adjust the power level during cooking if needed.
  2. Setting the Time: The Timer Knob is used to set the cooking duration. Once the timer is set, the oven light turns on, and the turntable begins to rotate, indicating that cooking has started.

Stopping the Cooking:

Cooking can be stopped temporarily by opening the door, which pauses the operation. To resume, simply close the door. To stop cooking completely, the Timer Knob should be turned to "0".

Adjusting Cooking Time:

The remaining cooking time can be adjusted by rotating the Timer Knob during operation.

Manual Defrosting:

The Defrost feature is specifically designed for defrosting meat, poultry, and fish. To use this feature, users place the frozen food on the turntable, close the door, and then turn the Variable Cooking Power Control Knob to the Defrost symbol. The appropriate defrosting time is then selected using the Timer Knob. The manual advises using microwave-safe recipients for defrosting.

Instant Reheat Feature:

This feature provides quick reheating options for specific food items. To use it, food is placed on the turntable, and the door is closed. The Variable Cooking Power Control Knob is set to Max Power, and then the Timer Knob is used to select the Instant Reheat option corresponding to drinks, soup/sauce (chilled), or fresh vegetables. The manual provides a table with recommended serving sizes, cooking times, and standing times for these items. For example, 150 ml of drinks require 1 minute 10 seconds of cooking time and 1-2 minutes of standing time. Similarly, 200-250 g of chilled soup/sauce needs 3 minutes of cooking and 2-3 minutes of standing time, while 300-350 g of fresh vegetables require 6 minutes 40 seconds of cooking and 2-3 minutes of standing time. Only microwave-safe containers should be used for this feature.

Cookware Guide:

The manual includes a comprehensive guide on suitable cookware for microwave use, categorizing items as Recommended, Use Caution, or Unsafe.

  • Recommended: Fine glassware, glass jars (without lids), plates, cups, napkins, kitchen paper, plastic containers (especially heat-resistant thermoplastic), cling film, boilable or oven-proof freezer bags (not airtight, pricked with a fork), and wax or grease-proof paper.
  • Use Caution: Aluminum foil (in small quantities to protect areas from overcooking, avoiding contact with oven walls), browning plates (do not preheat for more than eight minutes), China and earthenware (unless decorated with metal trim), disposable polyester cardboard dishes (some frozen foods are packaged in these), polystyrene cups/containers (can be used to warm food, but overheating may melt them), and oven-to-table glassware (unless decorated with metal trim).
  • Unsafe: Metal dishes, freezer bag twist ties, recycled paper (may cause arcing), paper bags or newspaper (may catch fire), and containers with golden or silver trims.

Maintenance Features:

Regular cleaning is crucial for the microwave oven's performance and safety. The manual outlines steps for cleaning various parts:

  1. Outside Surfaces: Clean with a soft cloth and warm, soapy water, then rinse and dry.
  2. Inside Surfaces and Roller Ring: Remove splashes or stains with a soapy cloth, then rinse and dry.
  3. Hardened Food Particles and Smells: To loosen hardened food particles and eliminate odors, place a cup of diluted lemon juice on the turntable and heat it at maximum power for ten minutes.
  4. Dishwasher-Safe Plate: Wash the turntable plate in the dishwasher as needed.

Important Cleaning Notes:

  • Always ensure the door seals are clean and the door closes properly. Failure to maintain cleanliness can lead to deterioration of surfaces and potentially hazardous situations.
  • Do not spill water into the vents.
  • Avoid using abrasive products or chemical solvents.
  • Take special care when cleaning door seals to prevent particle accumulation that could hinder proper door closure.
  • Do not clean the appliance by spraying water directly onto it, or using benzene, thinner, or alcohol, as this can cause discoloration, deformation, damage, electric shock, or fire.
  • Before cleaning or maintenance, unplug the appliance and remove food waste from the door and cooking compartment.
  • Do not use harsh abrasive cleaners or sharp metal scrapers on the oven door glass to avoid scratching or shattering it.
  • Do not use high-pressure water cleaners or steam jet cleaners.
  • Be cautious of sharp edges when cleaning the appliance.
  • Do not clean the appliance with a steam cleaner, as this may cause corrosion.

Safety Information:

The manual stresses several safety precautions, including:

  • Never operate the oven with the door open or if the door seals are damaged.
  • Do not heat liquids or other foods in sealed containers, as they may explode.
  • Ensure proper ventilation during installation, leaving adequate space around the oven.
  • Do not operate the microwave oven when it is empty.
  • Always use oven gloves when removing hot dishes.
  • Stir beverages during and after heating, and allow a standing time of at least 20 seconds to prevent delayed eruptive boiling.
  • Do not heat eggs in their shell or whole hard-boiled eggs.
  • Stir or shake contents of feeding bottles and baby food jars and check temperature before consumption.
  • Children should be supervised and instructed on safe use.
  • Do not insert fingers, foreign substances, or metal objects into the inlet, outlet, and holes.
  • Do not use aluminum foil, metal objects, or containers with golden/silver trims, as this may cause sparks or fire.
  • Do not overheat food or heat food wrapped in paper.
  • Do not place inflammable sprays or objects near the oven.
  • If food in the cooking compartment is burning, do not open the door; switch off or unplug the appliance and keep the door closed to stifle flames.
  • Do not touch heating elements or interior oven walls until they have cooled down.
  • Do not immerse the power cable or plug in water.
  • Do not operate the appliance with a damaged power cable or plug.
  • Do not cool the door, interior, or dish abruptly with water after cooking.
  • The appliance is not intended to be operated by external timers or remote-control systems.

The manual also provides troubleshooting tips for common issues like condensation, food not cooking, sparking, and interference with radios or televisions. It advises contacting a local dealer or Samsung after-sales service if problems persist.
