Overview

This document is an owner's manual for Samsung refrigerators, specifically models RT23, RT26, RT31, and RT34. It provides comprehensive instructions for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the appliance.

Function Description

The Samsung refrigerator is designed to store food items, keeping them fresh and preserved. It features separate compartments for refrigeration and freezing, allowing for optimal storage conditions for various types of food. The refrigerator utilizes an advanced air circulation system for efficient cooling and includes specialized zones to maintain the freshness of specific food categories.

Usage Features

The refrigerator offers a range of features designed to enhance user convenience and food preservation:

Storage Features:

  • Large Freezer Storage Area: Provides ample space for storing large quantities of frozen food.
  • Jumbo Storage Guard: Securely holds large bottles in the refrigerator door.
  • Adjustable Storage Guards: These guards can be repositioned to accommodate different heights of food containers, offering flexible storage solutions.
  • Sliding Drawer (Select model): Offers additional storage space for vegetables and fruits, making them easily accessible.
  • Bio-Fresh Zone (Select model): This specialized compartment is designed to keep vegetables fresh for longer periods by maintaining optimal moisture and preventing direct cold air draughts. Users can adjust the humidity control (High for increased humidity, Low for decreased humidity) to suit the stored items. However, it is not suitable for tropical fruits like bananas or pineapples.
  • Chiller Compartment (Premium only): This compartment helps preserve the taste and prolong the freshness of food by lightly freezing its surface. It's ideal for storing cheese, meat, snacks, or fish that will be used soon.
  • Super Freeze Zone (Select model): This zone is designed for quick freezing of stored items.

Cooling and Temperature Control:

  • i-Cooling: An advanced air circulation system that ensures faster surround cooling throughout the refrigerator.
  • Temperature Control: The refrigerator features separate temperature controls for the freezer and refrigerator compartments.
    • COLDEST Setting: Recommended when storing a large amount of food, needing to make ice quickly, or requiring fast freezing.
    • NORMAL Setting: A midway point between "COLDEST" and "COLD" for regular refrigerating or freezing.
    • COLD Setting: Suitable for storing only a small amount of food.
  • Note on Temperature Control: If the ambient air temperature is below 5°C, it is recommended to turn the Temperature Control to "COLD" to prevent freezing. For fine-tuning, the knob can be turned clockwise to increase cooling or anticlockwise to reduce it, beyond the marked positions.

Ice Making:

  • Twist Ice-Tray (Select model): Features a spring mechanism for automatic release of ice cubes. To use, fill the tray with water (without overfilling), slide it onto the ice cube shelf, and once ice is formed, twist the knobs to release the cubes into the ice storage bin below.
  • Ice Cube Maker (Economy Type): Uses standard ice trays for making ice. It is recommended to use ice trays for faster ice production.

Installation and Setup:

  • Getting Started: Before first use, allow the refrigerator to stabilize for at least one hour after plugging in. The freezer compartment should cool for 2 to 3 hours before storing food.
  • Installation Guidelines:
    • Avoid locations with draughts or dampness.
    • Place in a normal room temperature environment, away from direct sunlight, heaters, radiators, stoves, or ovens.
    • Maintain a 100mm space between the refrigerator and the wall. If in a recessed area, allow at least 300mm clearance above the unit.
    • Properly ground the appliance for personal safety; do not ground with telephone lines or gas pipes.
  • Leveling the Appliance: Adjustable feet at the front of the chassis allow users to compensate for uneven floors by turning them clockwise or counterclockwise.

Safety Cautions:

  • Do not splash water on the refrigerator, as it can damage electrical parts and cause shock or fire.
  • Avoid using flammable sprays (lacquer, paint) near the refrigerator, as heat from the refrigeration unit can ignite aerosols.
  • Prevent unattended children from playing with or hanging on the refrigerator door to avoid injury or damage to the appliance.
  • Do not leave the door open longer than necessary to prevent warm air entry and increased energy consumption.
  • Do not store volatile chemicals (ether, benzene) inside, as fumes can damage food and cause explosions.
  • If the refrigerator is damaged or not operating correctly, disconnect it from the power supply and contact a service center.
  • Be careful not to hit your head on the bracket lock when storing or removing food.
  • Avoid frequent or prolonged opening of the freezer door to prevent excessive frost accumulation, especially in humid areas.

Maintenance Features

The manual provides instructions for basic maintenance tasks:

Replacing the Lamp:

  • To replace the lamp, press the upper tab of the lamp cover with a tool (like a screwdriver) and pull it out.
  • Unscrew the old bulb and replace it with a new one.
  • Align the lamp cover at the top and carefully press it back into place.

Storing Food:

  • Store food in small portions.
  • Seal food in lidded containers, plastic wrap, or bags to prevent drying and odor mingling.
  • Allow hot food and drinks to cool to room temperature before placing them in the refrigerator or freezer.
  • Ensure sufficient space between items for proper cool air circulation.
  • Place liquids at the front of the refrigerator to avoid freezing.
  • Wash and dry fruits and vegetables before storing them.

Removing Accessories:

  • Freezer Shelf (Premium model): Pull the shelf forward and slide it out.
  • Refrigerator Shelf: Pull the shelf forward until it meets the stopper, then tilt the front up and pull it out.
  • Bio-Fresh Zone Bin and Cover (Premium only): Pull the bin forward and take it out. Lift the cover up and pull it out.
  • Chiller Compartment: Pull the compartment forward until it meets the stopper, then tilt the front upward and pull it out.
  • Adjustable Storage Guard: Lift the guard up and slide it out. These guards can be positioned as needed.
  • Bottle Storage Guards: Lift the guard up and slide it out. These are not adjustable and fit in only one position.
  • Dairy Guard (Premium only): Lift the guard up and slide it out (not adjustable, fits in one position). To reattach the cover, stick the left boss into the hole, lift the cover up, and push the right boss into the hole.

Troubleshooting Guide (Before Calling Service): The manual includes a detailed troubleshooting section to help users diagnose and resolve common issues such as:

  • Refrigerator not working: Check power plug, input voltage (use stabilizer if needed), and stabilizer function.
  • Excess Cooling: Adjust temperature control knob from "COLDEST" to "COLD."
  • Low Cooling: Adjust temperature control knob from "COLD" to "COLDEST," ensure clearance from sides, check for blocked air holes, allow hot food to cool before storing, and avoid frequent/prolonged door opening.
  • Noise: Level the refrigerator, maintain proper gap from walls, remove objects behind/under the unit. Note that water flowing sounds are normal refrigerant flow.
  • Smell: Clean spoiled food and dry the area, store food in sealed containers.
  • Frost inside: Ensure the door is closed fully, allow hot food/liquid to cool before placing in the refrigerator.
  • Slow ice formation: Adjust freezer temperature control knob to "COLDEST," use ice trays instead of pots/bowls.

General Notes:

  • The sides of the refrigerator may get hot, which is not a malfunction.
  • While the refrigerator can operate in high/low voltage, using a stabilizer is recommended.
  • All specifications are subject to change without prior notice.
