Overview

This document describes the features, usage, and maintenance of a Samsung LED TV, specifically from the Series 6.

Basic Features

The Samsung LED TV offers a range of features designed to enhance the entertainment experience:

  • 3D Viewing: This TV supports 3D content, allowing users to view compatible media in three dimensions. To enjoy 3D, users must wear Samsung 3D Active Glasses (SSG-5100GB model or compatible). The glasses communicate with the TV via a 2.4GHz RF band and are compatible with Samsung D, E, and F series 3D TVs released between 2011 and 2013.
  • Smart Hub: The Smart Hub serves as a central entertainment and family hub. It enables web browsing, downloading applications, and connecting with friends through social networking services. Users can also access photos, videos, and music files from external storage devices.
    • Social: Watch YouTube videos and view friends' video posts from Facebook and Twitter. Video calls are also possible with a separately connected camera.
    • Apps: Download and install various applications, including a WebBrowser.
    • On TV: This feature recommends TV programs based on popularity or personal preferences (availability depends on the country).
    • Films and TV Shows: Purchase and watch movies and series directly without an external device (availability depends on the country).
    • Photos, Videos & Music: Play back media files from external storage devices.
  • Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC): This feature allows users to control all connected Samsung devices that support Anynet+ using the Samsung TV's remote control.
  • e-Manual: A detailed, on-screen user manual is built into the TV, providing comprehensive information about its features.
  • Device Manager: The TV supports USB keyboards and mice for enhanced interaction.
  • Screen Mirroring: Wirelessly display mobile device screens on the TV.

Usage Features

Remote Control: The TV comes with a standard remote control featuring Braille points on the Power, Channel, and Volume buttons for visually impaired users. Key buttons include SOURCE, MUTE, VOLUME, CHANNEL, MENU, TOOLS, INFO, CH LIST, RETURN, GUIDE, and EXIT. The remote allows direct access to channels, adjusts volume, changes channels, displays channel lists, opens the OSD (Menu), and provides quick access to frequently used functions. It also includes buttons for Smart Hub applications, EPG (Electronic Programme Guide), and on-screen information. Special function buttons are available for SEARCH, STATUS, MORE (virtual remote), E-MANUAL, RECOMMEND, and AD/SUBT.

Turning On the TV: The TV can be turned on using the power button on the remote control or the TV's controller, a small joystick-like button located on the rear right side of the TV.

Initial Setup: Upon first activation, an initial setup dialog guides users through language selection, channel scanning, network connection, and other settings. This process can also be performed manually later via the Screen Menu > System > Setup. If an HDMI device is connected before setup, the Channel Source may automatically default to "Settop box."

Samsung 'On TV' Recommendations Service: To use this service, an Internet connection is required. Users configure their TV source (Aerial or Set-top box), auto-tune channels (if Aerial is selected), select a service provider by entering their postcode, and perform a Set-top Box Control Test to ensure remote control compatibility.

Switching Video Sources: Pressing the SOURCE button displays a list of available video sources. The "Tools" button provides access to functions like "Information" (view device details), "Edit Name" (rename connected devices for easier identification, e.g., PC, DVI PC, DVI Devices), "Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC)" (lists compatible devices), and "Disconnect USB Device" (safely remove USB devices).

Universal Remote Control Setup: The TV features a universal remote control function to operate external devices like cable boxes, Blu-ray players, and AV receivers. To set this up, users press the SOURCE button, select "Universal remote setup," and follow on-screen instructions. An IR Extender is provided, which should be placed at least 5 cm from the external device, facing its remote control signal receiver, ensuring no obstacles interfere with the signal transmission.

Connecting to a COMMON INTERFACE Slot: For paid channels, a "CI or CI+ CARD" must be inserted into the COMMON INTERFACE slot using the provided CI Card Adapter. The adapter should be attached before wall-mounting. If the card is not inserted, channels may display "Scrambled Signal." Pairing information will be displayed, and an error message may require contacting the service provider.

Network Connection: Connecting the Smart TV to a network provides access to Smart Hub services and software updates.

  • Wireless Connection: The TV supports IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n protocols, with 802.11n recommended for smooth video playback. A wireless router with DHCP is required. Users should select a clear channel for the router to avoid interference. Most wireless networks have security systems (WEP, WPAPSK, WPA2PSK, TKIP, AES) requiring a security key. WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) is also supported.
  • Wired Connection: The TV can be connected to a network via an Ethernet cable. It does not support network speeds less than or equal to 10Mbps, and Cat 7 cable is recommended.

Watching 3D Video: To watch 3D content, users must wear 3D Active Glasses and activate the 3D mode in the TV's Picture menu.

Maintenance Features

e-Manual Updates: The e-Manual can be updated through the Smart Hub by navigating to Apps > More Apps > Apps to update and selecting e-Manual.

Storage and Cleaning:

  • If a sticker was on the TV screen, any remaining debris should be cleaned off.
  • The TV's exterior and screen should be wiped carefully with a soft, dry cloth to prevent scratches.
  • Do not spray water directly onto the product, as this can cause failure, fire, or electric shock.
  • Clean the product with a soft cloth dampened with a small amount of water. Avoid flammable liquids like benzene, thinners, or harsh cleaning agents.

Ventilation: Maintain at least 10 cm clearance between the TV and other objects (walls, cabinet sides) to ensure proper ventilation and prevent overheating, which can lead to product problems or fire. Samsung-provided parts are recommended for stands or wall mounts to ensure stability and prevent injury.

Eco Sensor and Screen Brightness: The Eco Sensor measures ambient light and automatically adjusts screen brightness to reduce power consumption. This can cause the TV to brighten or dim. Users can enable or disable this feature in Screen Menu > System > Eco Solution > Eco Sensor. If the screen appears too dark in a dark room, the Eco Sensor may be the cause. Do not block the sensor.

Tip Prevention – Securing the TV to the Wall: To prevent the TV from falling, especially with children around, it should be secured to the wall.

  1. Fasten screws into clamps on the wall, ensuring they are firmly installed. Additional material like anchors may be needed depending on the wall type.
  2. Remove screws from the back center of the TV, insert them into clamps, and fasten them back onto the TV.
  3. Connect the clamps on the TV to the clamps on the wall with a strong cable and tie the string tightly. The TV should be installed close to the wall, and the string should be connected so that wall clamps are equal to or lower than TV clamps.
  4. Verify all connections periodically for signs of fatigue or failure. Professional installation is recommended for added security.

3D Active Glasses Maintenance:

  • Battery Replacement: If the red LED on the 3D glasses blinks every two seconds, replace the battery. Insert the "+" side of the battery into the compartment marked with "+."
  • Pairing: Ensure the glasses are within 19.5 inches (50 cm) of the TV during pairing. If pairing fails, power the TV off and on, then retry. Pairing is necessary if the glasses malfunction or are used with a different compatible Samsung 3D TV. Turn off the glasses when not in use to conserve battery life.

Still Image Warning: Avoid displaying still images (e.g., JPEG files, TV channel logos, news bars, panorama, or 4:3 formats) for extended periods to prevent image burn-in on the LED screen. To reduce this risk:

  • Avoid displaying the same TV channel for long durations.
  • Always try to display images in full screen using the TV's picture format menu.
  • Reduce brightness and contrast settings.
  • Utilize all TV features designed to reduce image retention and screen burn.

Firmware Updates: To maintain optimal TV condition, upgrade to the latest firmware from the Samsung website via USB.
