Overview

This document provides fast track troubleshooting information for Samsung washing machine models WF331ANW/XAA and WF331ANR/XAA. It includes details on how to access and utilize various test modes, perform connector checks, and interpret error codes, along with maintenance tips.

Function Description:

The Samsung WF331 series washing machine is designed to efficiently clean laundry with various cycle options. It features a range of functionalities including different wash cycles (Heavy Duty, Normal, Delicates, Perm Press, Hand Wash, Wool, Quick Wash, Rinse-Spin, Sanitize, Bedding, Deep Steam), temperature settings (Hot/Cold, Warm/Warm, Warm/Cold, Cold/Cold), spin speed adjustments (High, Medium, Low, No Spin), and soil level selections (Heavy, Normal, Light). The machine incorporates advanced sensors and control systems to monitor and manage the washing process, ensuring optimal performance and detecting potential issues.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power: The machine operates on standard AC power. Connector checks indicate 120VAC for various components like the heater and pump.
  • Motor: Features a D-D (Direct Drive) motor, with power phases U, V, and W. Hall sensors are used for motor position detection.
  • Sensors:
    • Water Level Sensor: Monitors water levels in the drum. Operating voltage is 2.5 VDC when no water is present. Resistance between Pin 6 (Pink) and Pin 7 (Violet) is 22-24Ω.
    • Water Temperature Thermistor: Measures water temperature.
    • Hall Sensor: Used for motor control and position sensing.
    • Pressure Sensor: Located on the washer thermistor.
    • Door Lock Switch: Detects door status (locked/unlocked).
  • Heater: A washing heater is present, with a resistance of approximately 16.6Ω when power is off. A steam heater is also included.
  • Valves: Multiple water valves are present, including Pre, Bleach, Cold Main, Hot, and Steam valves. Valve resistance ranges from 1202Ω to 1245Ω.
  • Pump: A drain pump is used to remove water from the drum.
  • Control System: Managed by a Main PCB and a Sub PCB (Display). The system includes relays for various functions (e.g., heater, power).
  • Dispenser: Features a fabric softener dispenser that activates during the rinse cycle.

Usage Features:

  • Quick Test Mode:
    • Activation: Press Soil, Signal, & Power simultaneously with the power off.
    • Functionality: Lights all LEDs, displays software version, allows testing of Door Lock/Unlock circuit (Spin key), Water Valves circuit (Temp key cycles through Pre, Bleach, Cold Main, Hot, Steam, then off), Heater (Soil key), and Pump (Signal key).
  • Service Mode:
    • Activation: Press Signal & Delay Start simultaneously with the power on. Can be entered during a wash cycle.
    • Functionality:
      • Quick Spin Test: Accelerates drum motor to maximum RPM. Press Start/Pause to hold speed for up to 10 minutes.
      • Cycle Count: Press Signal button to view total usage count.
      • Software #: Press Soil Level button to view software version.
      • Fault Code Test: Press Pure Cycle button to view stored fault codes. Turn dial to view specific error codes. Push Start/Pause to view the number of cycles since the error occurred.
      • Peripheral (Main PCB) Input Tests: Access by pressing Spin key in Service Mode. Allows checking temperature (Fahrenheit), door switch status (CL/OP), door lock switch status (UL/LO), and water frequency by turning the dial and pressing Start/Pause.
  • Spin Only Option:
    • Activation: Power on, press and hold Spin until display changes.
    • Functionality: Press Spin to select spin time. Press Start/Pause to begin the cycle. Spin speed varies with the selected cycle (Normal: 10/12 minutes, Heavy Duty: 11/13 minutes, Delicate: 8 minutes).
  • EEPROM Clear Check:
    • Activation: Power off, press Delay Start, Signal, and Power Key at the same time.
    • Functionality: Clears all memory, including fault codes. Recommended when a new Main PCB is installed.
  • Fabric Softener Dispenser Test:
    • Activation: Start Rinse and Spin Cycle.
    • Functionality: After the fill is completed, remove the detergent drawer and place a towel below the opening. The dispenser should activate within 3 minutes.
  • Bleach Dispensing: Samsung washers dispense bleach during the rinse cycle. This is to protect the effectiveness of detergent enzymes, which are cleaning agents, as bleach is a disinfectant. Dispensing during rinse helps keep whites white and minimizes odor.

Maintenance Features:

  • Error Code Diagnostics: The document provides a comprehensive list of error codes (LED and LCD) with detailed descriptions and troubleshooting steps.
    • Water Level Sensor (LE, 8): Check valves, clogged screens, defective solenoid coils, and 120VAC to the valve.
    • Motor Drive Error / Hall Sensor error (3E, E3, bE, 25): Check motor drive connector, hall sensor, foreign objects, motor damage, stator, and PCB/relay.
    • Water Supply Error (nF, 3): Check wiring harness, clogged supply valve, foreign material, reversed fill hoses, water temperature (if >50°C in Wool/Lingerie), and relays.
    • Fill Hoses Reversed (nF1): Correct Hot/Cold hose connections.
    • Drain Error (nd): Check for foreign material in pump/hoses, wiring harness, water pump terminal, freezing, and water level drop below reset level within 30 minutes.
    • Power Error (2E): Check operating voltage (under/over voltage), plug receptacle, extension cord use.
    • Momentary Power Failure (PF).
    • Communication Error (AE): Check wire connections, terminal contacts between sub/main PBAs, disconnected wires, short-circuited sub PCB (moisture), and main PCB's communication circuit.

    • Overflow Error (OE, 1E): Verify drain operation, water level detection, valve shut-off, and water level sensor.
    • Temperature Sensor Error (tE1): Check connections for washing heater temperature sensor connector.
    • Unbalance Error (dC): Check laundry type, reposition load, or remove items.
    • MEMS or Harness Failure (8E): Check MEMS PCB, Main PCB, wire-harness. Output from MEMS sensor over 4.5VDC (open) or below 0.5VDC (shorted) for 5 seconds.
    • Foaming Detected (SUdS, Sd): Normal operation to remove excessive suds, not an error for non-sensing faults.
    • Clutch Motor Error (PE): Clutch motor position not detected after 3 attempts.
    • Clutch Assembly Hall Sensor Error (PE1): Clutch assembly hall sensor not communicating with MICOM after 15 attempts.
  • Leveling: Ensure the washing machine is level to the floor to reduce redo calls and customer dissatisfaction, as vibrations can shorten product lifetime. When installing on upper floors, do not exceed recommended leg adjustment height for stability.
