The DPR-34+ is a portable digital radio (DAB+) with FM capabilities, designed for personal listening and convenience. It features a built-in rechargeable Lithium battery, a clear LCD display, and a compact design.
Function Description:
The DPR-34+ primarily functions as a DAB+ and FM radio. It allows users to scan for and tune into available digital and analog radio stations. The device is equipped with a telescopic antenna for optimal signal reception.
For DAB+ listening, the radio performs an initial scan of the entire DAB+ channel range upon first use or when initiated through the "Find Services" menu. It then displays a list of found stations, allowing the user to select their desired station using a jog wheel. The radio automatically tunes to the selected station and displays its name. While listening to DAB+, the user can access various service information by repeatedly pressing the jog wheel, including Program Type (PTY), Multiplex Name, Time, Date, Channel and Frequency, Bit Rate and Codec, and Signal Strength.
For FM listening, the radio can be switched to FM mode via the menu. It supports both searching tuning and manual tuning. In searching tuning, the radio scans upwards or downwards until it finds a station with sufficient signal strength. Manual tuning allows the user to change the frequency in 50 kHz increments to find a desired station. Similar to DAB+, when listening to an FM station with RDS broadcasting, the user can cycle through Radio Text information such as Pty, Audio Type, Time, Date, and Frequency by pressing the jog wheel.
The DPR-34+ includes a "Favorites" menu, which allows users to store and recall up to 10 favorite stations for both DAB+ and FM bands. To store a station, the user tunes to the desired station, accesses the Favorites menu, selects "Preset Store," and then chooses a preset number (1-10). Stored stations can be overwritten. To recall a station, the user navigates to "Preset Recall" in the Favorites menu and selects the desired preset.
The device also incorporates several user-configurable settings accessible through the "Settings" menu. These include:
- Auto select: Allows the radio to automatically select and tune to a station within a few seconds.
- SW version: Displays the software version installed on the radio.
- Factory reset: Erases all saved settings, station lists, and favorites, reverting the radio to its factory default state.
- Set contrast: Adjusts the LCD display contrast.
- Set backlight: Configures the display backlight. Users can choose "Backlight Auto" to have the backlight shut off after 12 seconds of inactivity, or "NO" to keep it continuously on.
- DRC (Dynamic Range Control): This feature, applicable only in DAB+ band, makes quieter sounds easier to hear in noisy environments. Users can select "DRC off" (broadcast DRC ignored), "DRC low" (DRC level set to 1/2 of broadcast), or "DRC high" (DRC set as broadcast).
- Service Information (FM): Provides Radio Text, Back, Date, Time, Audio Type, and Program Type information (subject to radio station RDS service availability).
- Sleep: Allows setting an auto shut-off timer (e.g., 90 min, 60 min, 45 min) after which the radio will turn off.
A key lock function is provided to prevent unintentional operation. When activated, the power and volume control buttons are disabled, and the display shows "Key Locked."
