Overview

The provided manual describes the Scotsman TCL/S 180 Electronic Counter Cubelet Ice Dispenser, a machine designed for indoor installation that produces and dispenses cubelet ice. This model is also available in a "New PC Board version" and an "EVO Version" for dispensing.

Function Description

The TCL/S 180 is an automatic and continuous ice-making and dispensing unit. It operates by chilling water in a freezing cylinder, where a rotating auger moves the slushy ice upward. The ice is then compacted, cracked by an ice breaker, and discharged as hard, dry cubelet ice into a storage bin. The machine automatically stops ice production when the storage bin is full, detected by an infrared optical system, and resumes when ice is dispensed.

Dispensing is initiated by selecting a mode (Ice, Ice+Water, or Water only, depending on the version) and placing a glass or carafe in front of optical dispensing devices. The unit then activates a drive motor and/or water solenoid valve to dispense the selected product through a bottom plastic spout. The EVO version offers touch-free dispensing with a factory-set 3-second ice-only dispensing time.

Mechanical System:

  • Gear Motor: Single phase electric motor with permanent capacitor, driving an auger at 9.5 r.p.m. in counter-clockwise rotation.
  • Ice Breaker: Features rectangular openings to compact and dry the ice. Houses the top bearing, lubricated with food-grade, water-resistant grease.

Usage Features

  • Electronic Control: The unit is managed by a P.C. Board with a micro-processor, controlling ice production, dispensing, and safety features.
  • LED Indicators: Six aligned LEDs on the P.C. Board monitor various operational statuses and warnings (e.g., power on, high condenser temperature, high evaporator temperature, wrong gear motor rotation/speed, full bin, low water level, optical ice level control out of order).
  • Dispensing Modes: Depending on the version, users can select between Ice, Ice+Water, or Water only. A "Continuous" dispensing option is also available.
  • Adjustable Dispensing Time: For non-EVO versions, the dispensing time can be modified to 1.5, 3, 5, or 10 seconds. The EVO version has a fixed 3-second dispensing time.
  • Touch-Free Dispensing (EVO Version): Automatically dispenses ice when a glass or carafe is placed in front of optical sensors.
  • Safety Devices: Includes an Electromagnetic Safety Device for gear motor rotation and speed, and sensors for condenser and evaporator temperatures to prevent operation under abnormal conditions.
  • Manual Reset: A RE-SET button allows restarting the unit after certain alarms have been diagnosed and resolved.

Maintenance Features

  • Periodic Checks: Daily ice-making capacity is influenced by condenser air inlet temperature, water temperature, and machine age. Periodic maintenance checks are crucial for peak performance.
  • Water System Cleaning: Requires regular cleaning of the water line strainer, float reservoir, and freezing cylinder using Scotsman Ice Machine Cleaner.
  • Condenser Cleaning: The condenser fins should be cleaned using a vacuum cleaner, whisk broom, or non-metallic brush, taking care not to damage the temperature sensor.
  • Ice Level Control Sensor Cleaning: The sensing "eyes" of the infrared ice level control system must be kept clean to ensure reliable detection, as dirt and scale sediment can affect its performance.
  • Bearing Lubrication: The top bearing in the ice breaker should be inspected and lubricated every six months with food-grade, water-resistant grease (P/N 263612.00).
  • Sanitation: The interior of the storage bin should be sanitized weekly with an anti-algae disinfectant solution (Scotsman Sanitiser P/N 264000.02) to prevent bacteria accumulation.
  • Water Quality: The manual emphasizes the importance of water clarity and purity, recommending a water filter or conditioner if water contains high levels of impurities. It also warns against using de-mineralized water with low electrical conductivity, as it can interfere with water level sensors.
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A detailed service diagnosis table helps identify symptoms, possible causes, and suggested corrections for common issues.
