Do you have a question about the SCOTT CR30X30SS and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Dominator Crusher, manufactured by Scott Equipment Company, is a robust piece of processing equipment designed for size reduction, specifically for breaking up lumps rather than fine grinding. It is suitable for various industries including agriculture, industrial, chemical, and food processing. The company, Neptune Technologies, is located at 4141 Comtois, Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada J1L 1R7. The specific model detailed in this manual is the CR30X30SS, with Job No. 13-071 and Serial No. 1304071.

Function Description:

The Dominator Crusher's primary function is to reduce the size of materials by breaking up lumps. It is not intended for fine grinding. The machine operates with rotors that must turn in the correct rotation for efficient operation, as indicated by a rotation arrow on the drive end. It can be equipped with various components such as gear speed reducers, oil fluid couplings, chain drives, spur gears, air-operated discharge gates, and air purge shaft seals, depending on the specific configuration and application.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model: CR30X30SS
  • Serial Number: 1304071
  • Motor: MARATHON 20HP TEFC 3ph/575v/60hz (Part No. W554). Proper electrical support components matching the motor's voltage and amperage rating are crucial.
  • Reducer: DODGE Shaft mount reducer (Part No. TA5215H15).
  • Reducer Bushing: Browning 2 15/16" Bushing (Part No. TA5215TB X2-15/16).
  • Drive Sheave/Sprocket: 25VX7.1SF.
  • Driven Sheave/Sprocket: 25VX11.8SF.
  • Belts/Chain: (2) 5VX1000.
  • Spur Gears: Martin TS684 BORE 2-13/16 KW2SS (Part No. 6DP-2FW-84T-20PA SPUR GEAR).
  • Drive End Bearing: Dodge (2) P2B-S2-307R 3-7/16 NE (Part No. 070288).
  • Idle End Bearing: Dodge (2) FC-S2-307R (Part No. 070660).
  • Shaft Seals: Scott Equip. MC 907 NYLON SEAL for both Drive End and Idle End. Air purge seals require 3-5 PSI of clean, dry, filtered air.
  • Lantern Ring: N.A. for both Drive End and Idle End.
  • Screens: Scott Equip. (multiple entries, suggesting various screen options).
  • Air Pressure for Discharge Gate: 90-110 psi recommended, with a filter/regulator/lubricator plumbed into the air supply line.
  • Air Pressure for Air Purge Shaft Seals: 3-5 psi recommended, un-lubricated.
  • Voltage Drop: Wiring should be heavy enough to ensure voltage drop at full load does not exceed 5% of the nameplate voltage.

Usage Features:

  • Adjustable Screen Carriage: The screen carriage can be adjusted to optimize performance. Initial settings are typically factory-set, but adjustments may be needed for spare or replacement screens. The procedure involves loosening bolts, removing the screen drawer, setting the new carriage, and adjusting clearance by rotating shafts and listening for rubbing sounds. Final adjustment involves setting the carriage down 1/8 inch after rotors rub, then tightening all bolts. If the screen slides down, it should be readjusted and pinned in place.
  • Safety Interlocks: The machine is equipped with safety guards, covers, and warning labels. Micro switches are supplied to prevent operation when covers and grates are open. These safety features must not be overridden.
  • Trained Personnel Operation: Only trained personnel should operate the machine, having read and understood the manual.
  • Pre-start Up Checks: Before operation, it's crucial to check the oil levels in gear speed reducers, oil fluid couplings, and chain/spur gear guards (if applicable), as these are shipped without lubricant from the factory. Air supply to air-operated discharge gates and air purge shaft seals must be verified. Shaft rotation should be double-checked against the sticker on the machine.
  • Break-in Period: Some machines, particularly mixers, have a short break-in period where the tub and agitator polish, reducing drag. Smaller batches may be necessary during this time to avoid excessive horsepower draw.
  • Troubleshooting Production Issues: If production is inadequate, possible solutions include checking if the screen size is too small, ensuring a constant feed supply, verifying material is being taken away from the discharge, and increasing the crusher's RPM.

Maintenance Features:

  • Safety Lockout: Before any physical inspection or maintenance, the power MUST BE DISCONNECTED AND LOCKED OUT FROM THE MACHINE to prevent accidental startup.
  • V-belt Drive Inspection: Check tension and condition at least once a month.
  • Bearing Lubrication and Inspection: Bearings are factory-lubricated but require regular inspection and lubrication. Over-greasing can damage seals. Check for excessive heat or grinding noises. If detected, stop the machine immediately and contact Scott Equipment. Periodically check set screws for proper tension.
  • Gear Reducer Lubrication: Gear reducers are shipped without lubricant and must be filled to the recommended level with the specified lubricant before startup.
  • Oil Bath Gear Guard: If equipped, check oil level if noisy or vibrating. Fill to the oil level plug with recommended lubricant. Drain and refill seasonally (typically 80-90 weight gear lub).
  • Shaft Seals Maintenance: Packing gland seals need adjustment if leaking is observed during operation. Tighten slowly until leaking subsides, being careful not to over-tighten, which can cause excessive wear and friction. If excessive heat is noticed on the shaft or bearing, loosen the push ring and contact Scott Equipment. Air purge seals require 3-5 PSI of clean, dry, filtered air. Packing material is a wear item and needs replacement over time, following a specific procedure for removal, cutting, and reinstallation, ensuring seams don't line up.
  • Cleaning: The machine may require regular cleaning depending on the product characteristics. Always disconnect power and lockout before cleaning.
  • Noise Investigation: Unusual noises should be investigated immediately. If concerned about noise, shut down the machine and call a Scott Equipment service representative.
  • Flexible Gear Couplings: If equipped with a chain drive and oil fluid coupling, flexible gear couplings need regular greasing according to manufacturer specifications.
