USE OF PROFLOW 2 RESPIRATOR
1. As described in this instruction, the PROFLOW 2 respirator must be properly pre-
pared for use and properly donned and leak checked in an area known to be free of
contamination before it can be used.
2. The power switch must be in the ON position for use.
WARNING
THE FACEPIECE MUST BE PROPERLY DONNED AND THE BLOWER SWITCH SET
TO THE ON POSITION BEFORE ENTRY INTO AN AREA CONTAINING OR SUSPECTED
OF CONTAINING CONTAMINATION. FAILURE TO DO SO MY EXPOSE THE USER TO
THE CONTAMINANTS THE RESPIRATOR IS DESIGNED TO PROTECT AGAINST RE-
SULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
3. Use of the respirator must be in strict accordance with the limitations contained in the
LIMITATIONS ON USE section of this instruction and in strict compliance with the
training and procedures of the Respiratory Protection Program of the employer.
4. Before entry into a contaminated area, the maximum safe duration of use must be
estimated. The maximum safe duration of use depends primarily on:
a) The amount and type of contamination in the air and the capacity of the air filtra-
tion element to absorb or neutralize that contaminant.
b) The amount of airborne particles (dust) in the atmosphere
c) The charge contained in the battery
d) The physiological limits of the respirator user.
The employer shall predetermine the maximum expected air filtration element life based
on a determination of the amount of contaminant in the atmosphere and the capacity of the
air filtration elements together with the expected air flow through the air filtration elements.
An average air flow of approximately two cubic foot per minute (CFM) will flow through
each air filtration element during prolonged use. In determining maximum time of use,
consideration must be given to the physiological limitations of the user to remain in a
contaminated area with the facepiece continuously sealed to his/her face.
5. The user must watch the digital display to monitor the battery level and the blower
power level while using the PROFLOW 2 respirator. If either status drops below the
acceptable level, the warning tone will sound. The user must exit the area requiring
respiratory protection, decontaminate if required, and take the appropriate corrective
action.
6. If, during use, the air flow from the blower assembly should noticeably decrease or
stop completely, or if inhalation should become difficult, immediately leave the con-
taminated area. Decontaminate if required and check the respirator.
WARNING
IF YOU DETECT ANY CONTAMINANT ODOR OR TASTE, OR IRRITATION OF EYE,
NOSE OR THROAT, RETURN TO FRESH AIR IMMEDIATELY, CHECK FACEPIECE FIT
AND REPLACE AIR FILTRATION ELEMENTS. FAILURE TO HEED WARNING SIGNS
OF EXPOSURE TO CONTAMINANTS MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR
DEATH.
WARNING
IF THE POSITIVE AIR PRESSURE FROM THE BLOWER CEASES FOR ANY REA-
SON, OR IF BREATHING BECOMES DIFFICULT, LEAVE THE CONTAMINATED AREA
IMMEDIATELY. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
7. If the airborne contaminate is detected by odor, taste, eye irritation, or if any discom-
fort is felt during respirator use, immediately leave the contaminated area.
Decontaminate if required and check the respirator.
