Overview

The Sealey Two Arm Centre Stand, model MPS2, is a robust and versatile motorcycle accessory designed to lift and stabilize the front or back end of hard and soft tail cruiser-style bikes quickly and safely. This product is manufactured to a high standard, ensuring reliable performance when used according to its instructions and properly maintained.

Function Description:

The primary function of the MPS2 stand is to provide stable support for motorcycles, allowing for easy removal of either the front or rear wheel. It achieves this by lifting and stabilizing the bike, making maintenance tasks such as tire changes, brake inspections, or chain adjustments more accessible and safer. The stand features adjustable arm height, which allows it to accommodate a range of motorcycle sizes and configurations. For protection, the contact points with the motorcycle's underside are equipped with a soft PVC sheath, preventing scratches or damage to the bike's finish. The design also incorporates rim and tire protection, ensuring that these components are not compromised during the lifting process.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model No.: MPS2
  • Minimum/Maximum Height: 200/275mm
  • Maximum Lift Capacity: 180kg

It is crucial to note that this stand is specifically designed to lift only a part of the total weight of the motorcycle, not the entire bike. This distinction is important for understanding its operational limits and ensuring safe use.

Usage Features:

The MPS2 stand is designed for straightforward and safe operation, but adherence to specific guidelines is essential to prevent damage or injury.

Safety Precautions (DO NOTs):

  • DO NOT sit on the motorcycle while it is on the stand.
  • DO NOT start the motorcycle while it is on the stand.
  • DO NOT mount the stand on tarmacadam or any unstable surface. The ground should be level and strong, preferably concrete.
  • DO NOT use the stand for any purpose other than its intended design.
  • DO NOT operate the stand if you are tired or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or intoxicating medication.
  • DO NOT allow untrained persons to operate the stand.
  • DO NOT make any modifications to the stand.
  • DO NOT operate the stand if any parts are missing or damaged.

Operational Steps:

  1. Preparation: Visually inspect and measure the motorcycle to be lifted. Ensure there are no obstructions or components underneath the bike that could be damaged when lifted. Assemble the handle, ensuring it is cranked downwards as shown in fig.1.
  2. Positioning: Position the motorcycle alongside the centre stand and slide the stand underneath the bike.
  3. Lifting: While holding the handlebars for stability, push down on the centre stand handle to bring the stand upright (refer to fig.2). Continue pushing the handle down to the floor to bring the stand to its "over centre" position, which locks it securely in place (refer to fig.3).
  4. Stabilization: Always support the motorcycle to prevent it from falling sideways (e.g., using a stabiliser) once it is on the stand.
  5. Removal: Before removing the motorcycle from the stand, ensure there are no obstructions or persons around the motorcycle.

General Safety Guidelines:

  • Maintain the stand in good, clean condition for optimal performance and safety.
  • Always locate the stand and motorcycle in a suitable, clean, tidy, and well-lit area, free from unrelated materials.
  • Ensure the floor/ground is level and strong enough (preferably concrete) to support the combined weight of the stand and motorcycle.
  • Maintain correct balance and footing when positioning the motorcycle on the stand; avoid overreaching.
  • Ensure the floor is not slippery and wear non-slip footwear.
  • Keep children and unauthorized persons away from the work area.
  • When not in use, store the stand in a safe, dry, childproof location.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for ensuring the longevity and safe operation of the MPS2 stand.

  • Pre-Use Check: Before each use, thoroughly check all parts of the stand. If any part is damaged or defective, immediately remove the stand from service and take the necessary action to remedy the problem. Do not attempt to use a compromised stand.
  • Cleaning: Keep the stand clean by wiping off any oil or grease. This not only maintains its appearance but also prevents dirt and grime from affecting its moving parts or stability.
  • Storage: When the stand is not in use, store it in a safe, dry, childproof location to protect it from environmental damage and unauthorized access.

Environmental Protection:

Sealey encourages responsible environmental practices. Unwanted materials, tools, accessories, and packaging should be sorted and taken to a recycling centre for disposal in an environmentally compatible manner. If the product becomes completely unserviceable and requires disposal, any fluids (if applicable) should be drained into approved containers, and both the product and fluids disposed of according to local regulations.

The Sealey Two Arm Centre Stand MPS2 is a valuable tool for motorcycle owners, offering a safe and efficient way to perform maintenance tasks. By following the instructions and safety guidelines, users can ensure years of trouble-free performance and contribute to a safer working environment.
