This document provides instructions for the Sealey Desk Fan Mini 4" 230V, Model No: SFF04. It outlines essential safety information, operational procedures, and maintenance guidelines to ensure safe and effective use of the product.
The Sealey Desk Fan Mini 4" 230V is designed to provide a constant airflow in a room. Manufactured from durable composite material, its ergonomic design allows it to pivot on a 180° axis, which maximizes the volume and direction of the air flow. The fan features a single speed setting, making it straightforward to operate. It is fitted with a BS fully approved plug, ensuring compliance with safety standards for electrical appliances in the UK. The primary function of this device is to circulate air, helping to cool or ventilate small spaces. Its compact size makes it suitable for desk use or in other confined areas where personal airflow is desired.
Before operating the fan, users must ensure that the fan switch is in the 'off' position before connecting it to the mains power supply. This prevents unexpected startup and enhances safety. The flex from the mains plug should be routed carefully to the machine to avoid creating a trip hazard.
Electrical Safety: Users are reminded that it is their responsibility to ensure all electrical products are safe before use. This includes inspecting power cables, plugs, sockets, and other connectors for wear or damage. The risk of electric shock must be minimized by installing appropriate safety devices, such as a Residual Current Circuit Breaker (RCCB) in the main distribution board or a Residual Current Device (RCD) for portable products. If there is any doubt regarding electrical safety, a qualified electrician should be consulted.
The Electricity at Work Act 1989 requires all portable electrical appliances used on business premises to be tested annually by a qualified electrician using a Portable Appliance Tester (PAT). The Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 holds owners responsible for the safe condition of electrical appliances and the safety of their operators.
It is crucial to ensure that the insulation on all cables and the appliance itself is safe before connecting to the power supply. Cables must always be protected against short circuits and overloads. Regular inspection of power supply cables and plugs for wear or damage is necessary, and all connections should be checked to ensure they are not loose.
The voltage marked on the appliance must match the power supply, and the plug must be fitted with the correct fuse. Users must NOT pull or carry the appliance by the power cable, nor pull the plug from the socket by the cable. Worn or damaged cables, plugs, or connectors must NOT be used; any faulty item should be repaired or replaced by a qualified electrician immediately. If an ASTA/BS approved UK 3-pin plug is damaged, the cable should be cut just above the plug, and the plug disposed of safely. A new plug should be wired according to the provided instructions: the GREEN/YELLOW earth wire to the earth terminal 'E', the BROWN live wire to the live terminal 'L', and the BLUE neutral wire to the neutral terminal 'N'. After wiring, it is essential to check for bare wires, correct connections, and ensure the cable outer insulation extends beyond the cable restraint, which must be tight. Double insulated products, marked with a specific symbol, are fitted with live (brown) and neutral (blue) wires only, and these should not be connected to the earth terminal.
For products requiring more than 13 amps and supplied without a plug, a qualified electrician must be contacted to ensure a suitably rated supply is available. An industrial round pin plug and socket installation is recommended. If an extension reel is used, it must be fully unwound before connection. An RCD-fitted reel is preferred for protection. The cable core section should be at least 1.5mm², with 2.5mm² recommended for multiple output sockets or outdoor use.
General Safety: The fan must be disconnected from the mains power when not in use and before any servicing or maintenance. It is intended for use in dry areas only and should NOT be used in wet areas or areas with high condensation, such as showers or pools. If the fan falls into water or any other liquid, it must be immediately switched off and disconnected from the mains power supply before touching it.
Always disconnect the fan from the power supply when moving it and ensure it is placed on a level surface. The fan's airflow is powerful, so users must ensure that nothing nearby will be damaged or displaced by the air stream. The fan must be kept clean and in good condition. For motor service, an authorized service agent should be contacted. Only recommended parts should be used, as unapproved parts can be dangerous and invalidate the warranty.
Users must NOT operate the fan where explosive or flammable gases, fumes, or other hazardous substances are present. The fan should NOT be stood on the power cable, and no objects should be inserted through the fan guard. The fan must NOT be covered when in use, immersed in water or any other liquid. Children must NOT be allowed to operate the fan. The fan should NOT be placed where it might be knocked over or off a surface, or where the lead could cause a person to trip. The fan is NOT for outdoor use. Speed control should NOT be modified, nor should any additional external speed control device be fitted to the fan.
When not in use, the fan should be placed in its original box or otherwise covered to protect it from dust and stored in a safe, dry, childproof location. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
Proper maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the Sealey Desk Fan.
Cleaning: Before cleaning, it is IMPORTANT to turn the fan OFF and disconnect it from the power supply. The fan should be cleaned using only a soft, damp cloth. Users must NOT immerse the fan in water and should NEVER allow water to drip into the motor housing. Solvents or other chemicals must NOT be used to clean the fan.
To clean the fan blades, the front guard needs to be removed. This involves removing the two screws located on the reverse side of the fan guard. Once the guard is removed, the blades and guards can be wiped clean. After cleaning, the front guard should be reassembled.
Storage: When the fan is not in use, it should be placed in its original box or otherwise covered to protect it from dust. It should be stored in a safe, dry, childproof location.
Service and Parts: For motor service, an authorized service agent should be contacted. Only recommended parts should be used for repairs or replacements. Parts support, including listings and diagrams, can be accessed via the Sealey website, email, or phone.
By adhering to these instructions, users can ensure the safe, efficient, and long-lasting performance of their Sealey Desk Fan Mini 4" 230V.
