How to fix a Sears Water Pump when the motor will not run?
    • V
      Vincent CollinsAug 2, 2025
If the Sears Water Pump motor isn't running, first ensure the disconnect switch is on. If it is on, check the fuse and replace it if blown. A defective starting switch could also be the culprit, so consider replacing it. Inspect the motor wires for looseness, disconnections, or incorrect wiring, referring to the wiring instructions and tightening all connections. Clean the pressure switch contacts by sliding a piece of plain paper between them. Finally, verify that the motor voltage precisely matches the power supply voltage.

Why does my Sears Water Pump motor run hot and overload kicks off?
    • S
      Sue AndersonAug 6, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump motor runs hot and the overload kicks off, the motor may be wired incorrectly, so refer to the wiring instructions. Low voltage can also cause this issue; check with your power company and install heavier wiring if the current wire size is too small. Also, the pump might be cycling too frequently, so consult the section on too frequent cycling.

What to do if Sears Water Pump pumps water but does not shut off?
    • S
      Sharon MccoyAug 10, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump pumps water but doesn't shut off, the pressure switch might be out of adjustment or the contacts could be frozen; try adjusting or replacing the pressure switch. Make sure all faucets are closed. A clogged ejector or impeller can also cause this, so clean them. If the water level in the well is lower than estimated, consider using a deep well jet pump. Finally, ensure the motor voltage matches the power supply voltage.

Why does my Sears Water Pump cycle too frequently?
    • R
      Robert ThompsonAug 14, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump cycles too frequently, the standard pressure tank might be water-logged with no air cushion. Drain the tank to the air volume control tapping and check the air volume control for defects, also look for air leaks at any connection. Check pipe connections for leaks. Ensure all faucets or valves are closed. If the foot valve leaks, replace it. Adjust or replace the pressure switch if it's out of adjustment. If you have a Captive-Air® tank, disconnect electrical power, relieve pressure, and check the air pressure at the valve stem. If it's less than the pressure switch cut-in setting, add air until it matches, and check the air valve for leaks, replacing the core if needed.

What to do if Sears Water Pump motor runs but no water is delivered?
    • T
      Theodore Flores IIAug 19, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump motor runs but no water is delivered, first check the prime. If the pump is newly installed, re-prime it according to instructions. Check all connections on the suction line, air volume control, and ejector for air leaks. Replace the foot valve if it's leaking. If the pump has lost its prime, check all connections on the suction line, air volume control, ejector, and shaft seal. Lower the suction line into the water and re-prime. If the water level is too low for a shallow well, a deep well pump is needed. A plugged ejector or impeller can be cleaned. Replace a stuck check valve or foot valve. Thaw frozen pipes, bury them below the frost line, and heat the pit or pump house. Raise the foot valve and/or strainer above the well bottom if buried in sand or mud.

Why Sears Water Pump does not deliver water to full capacity?
    • J
      James HuberAug 23, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump isn't delivering water to full capacity, and you've already checked the prime, the water level in the well might be lower than estimated, so lower the ejector in the well. If you're using steel piping, it might be corroded or limed, causing excess friction; replace it with plastic pipe where possible, or new steel pipe. Also, the offset piping might be too small, so use larger offset piping.

Why is air spurting from my Sears Water Pump faucets?
    • J
      Jeremy SullivanAug 28, 2025
If air spurts from your Sears Water Pump faucets, it could be that the pump is picking up prime; as soon as it does, all air will be ejected. Another cause could be a leak in the suction side of the pump, so check the suction piping. The well might be gaseous and needs a change of installation. Intermittent overpumping of well can also be the cause, so lower the foot valve if possible, otherwise restrict the discharge side of the pump.
