Why does my Sears Water Pump cycle too frequently?
    • D
      Deanna HartmanAug 17, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump is cycling too frequently, it could be due to several reasons. Pipes might be leaking, so check the connections and replace any faulty pipe fittings. Ensure all faucets or valves are completely closed. A leaking foot valve can also cause frequent cycling, so consider replacing it. The pressure switch could be out of adjustment, requiring adjustment or replacement. Also, check the air charge in the Captive Air® Tank. To do this, disconnect electrical power, open faucets to relieve pressure, and use a tire pressure gauge to check the air pressure at the valve stem on top of the tank. If it's less than 40 pounds, pump air into the tank until it reaches 40 pounds. Check the air valve for leaks with a soapy solution and replace the core if needed.

What to do if my Sears Water Pump pumps water but does not shut off?
    • T
      Tami BellAug 21, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump pumps water but doesn't shut off, the pressure switch might be out of adjustment or its contacts may be “frozen”. Try adjusting or replacing the pressure switch. Ensure all faucets are closed. A clogged jet or impeller could also be the issue, so clean them. Also, refer to the wiring instructions. Consider the possibility of using a deep well jet pump.

Why is my Sears Water Pump not delivering water to full capacity?
    • M
      Michael JonesAug 26, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump is not delivering water to its full capacity, the water level in the well might be lower than estimated. In this case, you may need a deep well jet pump if the water level is over 20 ft. If steel piping is used, corrosion or liming could be causing excess friction; replace it with plastic pipe where possible, or with new steel pipe. If the offset piping is too small, use larger offset piping.

How to troubleshoot a Sears Water Pump when the motor will not run?
    • A
      Amanda BrownAug 29, 2025
If the motor of your Sears Water Pump will not run, first, be sure the switch is on. If that's not the issue, replace the fuse. If it still doesn't work, replace the starting switch. Refer to the wiring instructions for proper connection. Clean the contacts by sliding a piece of plain paper between them.

Why is there air spurting from the faucets when using my Sears Water Pump?
    • S
      Sydney AndersonSep 1, 2025
If you're experiencing air spurts from the faucets with your Sears Water Pump, the air will be ejected as soon as the pump picks up prime. A leak in the suction side of the pump could also be the cause; check the suction piping to ensure joints are not sucking air. If the well is gaseous, change the installation as described in the manual. If possible, lower the foot valve; otherwise, restrict the discharge side of the pump.

What to do if the Sears Water Pump motor runs hot and the overload kicks off?
    • S
      Sara BrownSep 5, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump motor runs hot and the overload kicks off, refer to the wiring instructions. Check with the power company and install heavier wiring if the wire size is too small (see wiring instructions). Also, see the section on too frequent cycling.

How to fix leaks at the metal clamp on my Sears Water Pump?
    • M
      maria26Sep 9, 2025
If you notice leaks at the metal clamp of your Sears Water Pump, first check the clamp tightening screw to ensure it is tight. If it is tight and slight leakage still occurs, place a piece of wood on the periphery of the clamp and firmly tap the wood with a hammer. Repeat this operation around the edge of the clamp and retighten the clamp screw. If the leak continues, disassemble the clamp and pump halves and check to see that the 'O' ring is properly seated and that no foreign material is on the 'O' ring or 'O' seat. Reassemble the pump.

What to do if my Sears Water Pump runs but no water is delivered?
    • J
      James DayNov 13, 2025
If your Sears Water Pump runs but doesn't deliver water, it could be due to improper priming. In a new installation, re-prime the pump according to the instructions. Also, check all connections on the suction line and jet for air leaks. A leaking foot valve can also be the cause, so replace it if necessary. Other potential causes include the water level being below the suction point, in which case you should lower the suction line and re-prime. If the water level is receding in a shallow well, a deep well pump might be needed. Additionally, the jet or impeller might be clogged, so clean them according to the instructions. You may also need to replace the check valve or foot valve. Frozen pipes can also prevent water delivery, so thaw them, bury them below the frost line, or heat the pit or...
