This document is an instruction manual for SECOH SANGYO CO., LTD. Linear Compressors, covering models SLL-20, SLL-30, SLL-40, and SLL-50. It provides essential information for the safe and correct operation, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of these devices.
Function Description
The SECOH SANGYO Linear Compressors are designed to pump air. They are intended for use in applications requiring a steady flow of air, such as aeration in wastewater treatment, aquaculture, or other industrial and domestic settings. The manual explicitly states that the product is designed for air only and warns against pumping flammable gas or liquid, as pumped fluid passes through live parts, posing risks of ignition, electric shock, or short circuit.

Users are responsible for determining the product's suitability for intended use, as environmental and application conditions may affect advertised life.
Usage Features
The manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and correct usage of the linear compressors, emphasizing several key features and warnings:
Prior to Operation
- Air Only: The product is designed exclusively for air. Pumping flammable gas or liquid is strictly prohibited due to the risk of ignition, electric shock, or short circuit.
- Power Supply: Connect the product to the specified power supply voltage (120V nominal) indicated on the nameplate to avoid electric shock.
- Child Supervision: Close supervision is necessary when the appliance is used by or near children.
- Vehicle Mounting: The product is not designed for mounting on a vehicle.
Storage and Transfer
- Carrying: Always carry the product by both hands. Do not carry it by holding the filter cover, as the body may slip and cause injury. Avoid carrying it by the power supply cord to prevent wire damage.
- Temperature: Pump surfaces can become very hot during operation; do not touch them until they cool.
- Storage Conditions: Store the product indoors, out of the weather, to prevent rubber parts deterioration and malfunction due to magnet deterioration.
Installation
- Professional Installation: Installation, including wiring and plumbing, should be performed by a distributor or specialist.
- Pre-Installation Check: Examine the pump after installation; do not plug it in if water is present on parts not intended to be wet.
- Location:
- Safety: Do not install in areas where it could be immersed in water or other liquids to avoid short circuit or electric shock.
- Siphoning Prevention: Install the product above the water level to prevent siphoning if power fails, which could lead to short circuit or electric shock from liquid flowing back into the product.
- Flammable/Explosive Gas: Do not install in areas where it could contact flammable or explosive gas to avoid ignition.
- Environment: Install in a shaded and well-ventilated place. Direct sunlight can shorten diaphragm and valve life due to high temperatures. Avoid humid or dusty areas, as overheating from a clogged filter can shorten diaphragm and valve life.
- Maintenance Access: Install in an area that allows for secure working space for maintenance.
- Ambient Temperature: The ambient temperature should not exceed 104°F (40°C). A cooling fan is recommended in areas of higher temperatures.
- Mounting Surface: Mount the product on a horizontal, stable, and rigid surface for appropriate operation.
- Grounding:
- Risk: Improper installation of the grounding plug can result in electric shock. The grounding wire is green, with or without yellow stripes. Do not connect it to flat blade terminals.
- Procedure: The product must be grounded to reduce electric shock risk in case of a short circuit. It is equipped with a 3-prong grounding plug that must be plugged into a properly installed and grounded outlet (120V nominal circuit). No adapter should be used.
- Extension Cords: Use only 3-wire outdoor extension cords with a 3-blade grounding plug and a 3-slot receptacle. Ensure the extension cord is in good condition and heavy enough for the current draw. For lengths less than 50 feet, 16AWG extension cords should be used. Undersized cords can cause a drop in line voltage, leading to power loss and overheating. Extension cords must be marked "for outdoor use."
- Mounting:
- Weather Protection: The product must be weather-protected to avoid electric shock or short circuit if mounted in an area exposed to water or other liquids.
- Secure Mounting: Ensure the product is securely mounted prior to operation.
- Plumbing:
- Connection: Connect the pump's exhaust part and rigid plastic pipe VP13 (ID 13mm x OD 18mm) with an L-joint hose.
- Pipe Diameter: Plumbing with smaller diameter pipes can cause excess pressure and overheating, shortening diaphragm and valve life.
- Secure Connection: Secure connections with hose bands. Do not twist the L-joint hose.
- Length: Plumbing should be as short and straight as possible. Consult the distributor if the length exceeds 16.4 ft (5m).
- Cleanliness: Ensure nothing remains in the pipe during plumbing, as foreign material can cause excess pressure and overheating, shortening diaphragm and valve life.
Operation
- Power Cord: Do not modify, heat, or pull the power cord. Avoid placing heavy loads on the power cord, as damage can lead to hazards.
- Plug Connectors: Clean electric source plug connectors once a year and plug in securely. Dust or improper plugging can cause fire or electric shock.
- Wet Hands: Do not touch the electric source plug with wet hands.
- Removal: Grasp the plug to remove the power cord from the outlet; do not remove by pulling on the cord.
- Damage: Do not operate if the cord or plug is damaged, or if the product is malfunctioning, dropped, or damaged in any way.
Maintenance Features
The manual outlines a clear schedule and procedures for periodical maintenance to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the compressor.
Periodical Maintenance Warnings
- Power Disconnection: Always disconnect power before servicing to avoid electric shock, personal injury, or death.
- Filter Element: Clean the filter element quarterly. A clogged filter element can cause overheating or pump failure.
3-1 Filter Element Cleaning
- Disassembly: Undo the truss head screw and remove the filter cover.
- Cleaning: Take out the filter element and slap it to remove dust. If heavily clogged, wash it by rubbing with neutral detergent, then rinse with water and dry in the shade.
- Reassembly: Reassemble the filter element back in place, press in the filter cover, and fix the filter cover with the truss head screw.
3-2 Replacement of Filter Element, Filter Cover Packing, Valve Box, Diaphragm
The manual indicates that the replacement procedure for the filter element follows the same steps as cleaning. It also lists a "Diaphragm repair kit for SLL" which includes:
- Diaphragm (2 pcs)
- Diaphragm holder (2 pcs)
- Nut (2 pcs)
- Valve box (2 pcs)
- Filter element (1 pc)
- Filter cover packing (1 pc)
- Tank base packing (1 pc)
